Vendor Rec- 3 Brothers Construction
Hello all, I’ve had so many “not so great” vendor experiences lately that I wanted to recommend a good contractor. I had to have some stoop repair done to the inside/underside of my brownstone steps. The cement was cracking/crumbling under the stairs. Once the old cement was removed we realized that most of the mortar between the bricks was turning to sand and many of the bricks had softened nearly to the point of crumbling.
3 Brothers construction removed those bricks, put new ones in, put new mortar between the bricks that were salvageable (sp?), did the scratch coat of cement and then the final color coat of cement. They even added a new door to the “shed” underneath my steps and fixed the hinges on my front door w/o being asked to do so.
They were always on time (and always called if they thought they would be late). They even placed my mail inside of the home since they were working in the doorway when it was delivered every day.
Owner is Mostafa 917.337.5523
On a sidenote, they also painted the front of my brownstone home in 2001 (before I was the property owner). Since this was so long ago I can’t vouch for how well they’d do this type of job now but I will say that the paint job is still holding up very well in comparison to some of my neighbors who have had their homes repainted more recently.
Mostafa also mentioned that he has a working relationship w/Landmarks if that matters to anyone.
Thx
The price of a smooth new road
Just thought I’d pass this one one. I live on the corner of Hoyt & Degraw St in Cobble Hill/Carroll Gardens. I’m sure many of my neighbours have had mixed feelings about the recent road work. Cars have been towed by the authorities and there have been delays. Today I came home to this – the beautiful tree blooming outside my front door has been brutalised and I have no idea what to do. NYC.GOV/311 took the report and told me the Park and Rec people would be out in a week or more and that it may take up to 45 days to clear. I’m just worried that by ignoring my poor tree it may die altogether.
Any help and advice on teh matter would be greatly appreciated by my wife and I.
Cheers.
163 Washington Ave Developers – Heartless People
About 35-40% of the contracts for the 163 Washington Ave Condo building were signed, as of the end of January 2011. Everyone, including myself, received emails from the sales representative of the building saying that the units were being permanently taken off of the market because the building was sold, and all deposits would be returned. I did receive my deposit back, however am stuck will real estate attorney fees, etc, as I’m sure many other are. Although it’s been almost impossible to gather any information on what is going on, apparently, the new owners are now intending on renting the units.
Does anyone have anymore info on this?

In the comments for the Brooklyn Branding: How Far Can It Go?
entry, a commenter requested a picture of the Brooklyn Cigarettes (from France) and the Italian Brooklyn Gum. This is the quickest way I thought of posting it for Brownstoners.

Big fire in Brooklyn – 2am Sunday
Woke up at 2am to the smell of smoke. After checking realized it was coming from outside. From the roof I saw the whole neighborhood seemed thick with smoke. There were certainly sirens. Found this great link but it still isn’t clear (Gowanus or smoke from Jersey)…

Any Updates on 52 Clark Street?
The last I read about this building, people were complaining about major problems from 2009 and early 2010. Any current residents able to weigh in on how the building is now?
