I’m selling three white marble mantels, originally from a house in Prospect Heights and currently residing in storage in my basement in Cobble Hill. Two of the mantels are simple pieces, with triangular carved sides and scrolled keystones. The sides measure 45″ high to the bottom of the mantel shelf. The shelf itself measures 64″ wide by 11″ deep. The mantels were removed with care and are stored flat. One set has some cracks, the other is intact.

The third mantel is a massive, gorgeous piece that would probably do best in a larger-scale brownstone. The top shelf measures 62″ wide by 20″ deep. The front is elaborately carved, with a keystone featuring a bunch of grapes and a dove.

All include metal front grates.

During a renovation, we had a marble fireplace removed. It wasn’t in good condition to begin with, and to broke during the removal, which we thought would probably happen.

So now I’ve got a bunch of pieces of marble, mostly broken into odd shapes. The mantle is still intact. Is there a way I can get some money for them, or are they worthless at this point?

found some remnants for our kitchen island…they want to charge me about $53/sqft. good price??

i think this stuff normally goes for $70+

We’re ready to do the Carrara counters in our kitchen (yes I know all the cons) and I have comparable phone estimates from all three of these stone places. I’d love to hear from anyone who has had recent experiences with any of them. Also, can I have more than one of them come in to measure and provide a final estimate, or am I committing myself to them once I ask them over? Thanks for your help.

I am looking for suggestions for someone who can cut off approx 4″x4″ from the sides of my 1″ thick marble mantel ledge so that the ledge is flush with the vertical sides of the surround. I am having bookshelving built and these pieces that jut out would interfere with the bookshelves. See the photo attached.Maybe this is stone masonry? Don’t know term exactly so I put this in “marble” category.

Do marbles react to acid attacks?

Any recommendations on a place that seems to specialize in granite that was either returned, on clearance, seconds etc? Doing a rental kitchen so am not so picky about colors or even slight imperfections for countertops. Thanks.

I am recomending creative construction on Union btw Columbia and van Brunt. They beat everyone in price and were able to make my vanity affordable. They worked with architects drawings well, and their crew was wonderful. Anyone know a good vendor for small pieces of marble. We need two door saddles, about 8 sq. ft. We’re looking for someone who might have a selection. Thanks.
