repost: lights for basement room

sorry forgot to add picture.

Hi, I have basement room with 7’10″ ceilings. I want to put light in a box around the perimeter of the room. Basically I will build a 8″x8″ box (as depicted on the picture) and put recessed lights to light the wall and another lights to defuse light from the ceiling. Normally it would be luminescent 4′ bulbs. But we really hate luminiscent lights. So is there any alternatives for the diffused lights?

In general, does this idea makes sense?

Christmas Lights on the Brownstone Top

I want to run a string of Christmas lights along the roof line of the house. Is the any pointers how to attach light there? Screw in screws from the front side of the house?

The plan is to connect lights via the extension cord which will go to the room outlet next to the window AC unit. Is the any fire issue I could expect?

lighting for room in basement

What would be a good lighting for large basement room. The ceiling is ~8′ high. It has two large windows. I though about recessed lighs but I also hear that scone lights will reflect of the ceiling and make ceiling look higher. Should I go with both scones and recessed. Any other approaches?

Finally I will use http://www.soundproofing.org/sales/SSP.htm to soundproof the ceiling. Do I need to attach the recessed fixtures to the joists or to the Sheetrock (so to reduce sound transmission).

Electrical / Lighting Question

Hi team, quick question. A recessed light in my bathroom (one of two on the same switch) recently started blinking off and then back on when I turn the switch on. I tried tightening the bulb, but that’s not the issue. Is there any way to easily test what’s going on without bringing an electrician in? Thanks!
