Removing Birds Nest from Below Gutter

I am trying to have a birds nest removed from below our gutter in the rear of our brownstone.
does anyone have any recs for someone who knows something about insects associated with this, namely bird mites?

specifically, i am wondering if anyone out there in the Clinton Hill area remembers the Dept. of Agriculture guys coming around about a month ago looking for asian longhorns. there was a particular tree climber in the group that gave me his card, which i have since lost. I feel that this guy would be perfect for the job.

He was an athletic slender white male who climbs trees fast and has a tree pruning/removal business on the side. he may have given you his card which reads “(his name)’s Trees”

thanks all.

Need a GREAT Exterminator Immediately

I just had a barbecue in the backyard and cleaned up pretty well, or so I thought. I’ve just watched 5 large rats have a late night snack. Can someone recommend a really good exterminator that will come out at short notice. I am totally disgusted right now!
Thanks

Disturbing Noise In Airshaft….

I live on the third floor of a 4 floor row house in Park Slope. Frequently through my bath air vent is audible a high-pitched continual sound that is either mice nesting or birds nesting, either in the building or in the air vent, possibly near the roof. The sound is constant for long periods of time.

Ideas? What do I tell my coop management to do; it’s disturbing my girlfriend!

Termite Treatments That Work? + Cost for Joist Replacemts?

What termite treatments have you done to your house and what seems to have worked?

We have talked to two outfits and these seem to be the options:
-drilling 3 holes into each beam end and putting some sort of syrup substance into E V E R Y to create a wall of defense
-drilling holes in the floors along the foundation walls, filling with something (called phantom??) and sealing the hole, this is for both inside the house and outside.
-spraying boracare inside all walls, floor and beams – everywhere
-sealing all the concrete walls & floors (not for water issue in this case but to close up holes?)

The tactic seems to be create a wall of defense with all these numerous holes all round the house. It is NOT cheap and I wonder if there is anyway to figure out what is overkill. Its funny, I equate holes with letting water in and yet the termite solutions seems to be creating tons of them…

Some of the really badly eaten joists probably needs to be replaced… Has anyone done this and how much does each joist run you (current joists are 3x8x21.) Does anyone have contractors that are actually good at replacing structural elements to recommend?

Bed Bug Success

My house was swamped with bed bugs last month so i had to do something. I didnt’t want to use chemicals because i have children and i didn’t want someone coming in and spraing everything down with chemicals. I found a site called BedBugChasers.com which is a company that uses heat to kill bed bugs or any other kind of annoying bugs. They came in and did the whole job for me and all i had to do was remove anything wax from my house so it didnt melt. They really did kill every bed bug and i have not had a problem since.

Raccoon Removal Asap!

OK, as you can see by our newly active posts in the GWH Backyard Reno blog, we love our garden…and our home as well.

While we have always had issues with our ring-tailed friends since moving here in 2004, this summer has taken the prize…and unfortunately making us take action.

Having a raccoon occasionally didg up some plants, help him/herself to a veggie, poop (OK, that’s not cool) or drag some garbage into the yard, OK.

Moving under our shed (we think), shitting everywhere (though always in the same spot), bedding down in our greens, dragging beer cans into the yard (“Simple Time Lager” anyone) and now climbing up our back roof and trying to break in (destroying our built in screens in the process) is enough!

While we’ll be surfing the web and hitting the Yellow Pages for a humane removal company, does anyone out there have any experience hiring a trapper? Any recommendations?

Rats In My Basement

I have been having problems in the last year with a rat infestation in my townhouse basement. I have hired a contractor to seal any openings and cracks and have eliminated trash and clutter. I need a good exterminator to follow up.

Anyone have any experience with solving this sort of problem, or who can recommend a good exterminator?

A Good Rat Exterminator?

My townhouse basement is overrun by rats! I have tried sealing all cracks and holes and have removed all clutter from the basement.

Can anyone help me with a good exterminator who has helped them eliminate a severe rat infestation?

I’m assuming the problem is a result of all the construction around the Atlantic Yards area, Downtown Brooklyn and Fort Greene Park.
