Toxic Soil !
I purchased a beautiful brick, 2 family brownstone in Ridgewood this Summer and promptly tested my backyard soil (Brooklyn College soil testing service). The results revealed high levels of Lead and other toxic chemicals. I needed to remove the soil and replace it with clean dirt so my young child could safely play. I also planned to grow a garden. Brooklyn College recommended Gennaro Brooks-Church from EcoBrooklyn! They are incredibly helpful, professional, neat, reliable, kind and truly informative. EcoBrooklyn deals with all sorts of green building issues. This is a solid company and I highly recommend them.

Air quality – difference between Carroll Gardens and Park Slope
We have 3 very young children and are deciding between moving to Park Slope or Carroll Gardens. I am wondering if there is a big difference in air quality between the 2 neighborhoods (in CG, we’re avoiding places located within a few blocks of the BQE though.) I am concerned as our son has asthma. Thanks for your help.

Trees in Williamsburg
I’m found this site while searching for a way to get involved in Williamsburg’s landscape.
Where do I go, who do I contact, how do I petition for more trees to be planted in Williamsburg, starting with Metropolitan Ave?
ECB Outrage!
Today I received in the mail a $200 summons for having plastic hanger in a bag meant for plastic recycling. This nonsense has gotten totally out of control. Does anyone have any suggestions on who to contact about this escalating excuse for raising money off the backs of building owners? Also, can this violation be fought at a hearing or is it a waste of time?
meter parking after the snowstorm
Bayridge avenues are clogged with SUVs left in the middle of the street by people who could not get them out of snow. My car is parked on the meter and I cannot get it out because somebody left his SUV right next to it. So are they really going to issue tickets to the cars on the meters today? I made a few photos my car been blocked and will contest the ticket.
It must be serious snow. Yesterday I saw DOT snow plow with chains fishtailing and crashing into parked car.
A Tree Down In Brooklyn
The storm back in October brought down this huge tree in my yard. Twigs in bundles. Small and large logs great for firewood are available for the taking. Free of charge. Location: Front porch 922 Pacific Street bet Washington and Grand.
Asbestos Abatement ?
Can someone recommend an asbestos abatement contractor/company. We will be building up an extra floor on our house and we need to remove about 40 sq. ft of roof that tested positive for asbestos. Thanks! Rob
Exhaust Fumes on Block
Starting when the weather turned cold last week, there’s been a persistent smell of exhaust fumes on our block in the center slope. I can’t say whether it’s from a diesel generator or an oil burning furnace, but I’d guess it’s one of the two. It’s so bad that creeps in through closed windows. I don’t remember anything this bad in prior years.
Before I call the DEP (311), anyone have any experience investigating this type of issue?
Is This Asbestos?
I’m cleaning under my steam radiator and pulled some of this out in awful condition (ancient). Is this some form of asbestos or is it some other insulation.
