Estimate for Demo-ing, Drywall, Insulating Attic

I know these “how much will it costs” posts suck because there are always so many factors involved, but can anyone give me a general ballpark figure on how much it will cost to demo, insulate, and sheetrock my attic (about 700 sq ft)? It’s finished in lathe and plaster right now, but the plaster is in really bad condition (huge cracks all over) that it’s not worth repairing. Plus, it gets roasting hot in the summer and freezing cold in the winter so I’d like to insulate it. I’m planning on turning it into my office, so it has to be somewhat habitable.

I’m trying to decide if I should put up with the PITA and do it myself, or if I should hire someone to do it for me. I demo’ed my kitchen myself and it sucked… I have no idea how much it would have cost to have it done professionally, but I know I’m really not looking forward to doing the attic myself.

I’m not trying to do anything fancy, and already have bids from the electrician for wiring, so just need an idea if demo and sheetrocking will cost me $1k or $10k?

THanks

Demolition

How much should a bathroom demolition cost? It is a tiny bathroom 6 x 6 foot and it is on a street level brownstone. I already sold the bathtub.

Is $1400 a good price from a contractor?

Midium Rubbish Removal Container

We need to get small containers like the one on the picture and I have seen all over Brooklyn and Manhattan. Do you have any recommendation? We are on a budget. It would be great if instead of calling to all the Rubbish Removal companies we could get some advise from anybody.

Great Experience with Garbage Removal

I just had an entire backyard of construction mess removed by Just Rubbish Removal. For the price of renting a dumpster, these guys removed all my miserable construction mess in a few hours and hauled it away. I highly recommend them. This is not an ad! Joey is the contact/owner and the website is needrubbishremoval.com.

Demolition Debris Removal

Looking to start work on our house soon, but we have an issue in that our street has no parking and therefore we can’t put a big dumpster out front. Looking for ideas on what else we can do.

I’m worried we may have to just get a small dumpster on our front sidestoop area and have it emptied more often.

Any alternatives?

Dry Wall -> Brick Stripper

Hi, we currently have dry wall covering the outer brick layer. We want to expose this brick on one particular wall, but are on a budget so are looking for smaller outfits willing to work on smaller projects. We know we may have to have the brick repointed, but are only looking for a “wall stripper” at this point to actually strip away the dry wall.

Any suggestions?

Getting Rid of Concrete?

So we had some fun with a sledgehammer this past week and took up an 8×10 section of concrete in front of our place to make a front garden.
Any suggestions on getting rid of the concrete now? I know I can put it out bit by bit in my trash, but that would take months. Any way to buy some space in someone’s dumpster? Open to any ideas and am willing to load/transport it myself. Thanks!

Small Amount of Debris

I’ve got about three contractor bags full of sheet rock debris from some work. It’s not enough to get a container, but too much to put out on the curb.

I’d love to just drive it over somewhere and dump it, but the city dumps apparently don’t allow drive up anymore.

Anyone know a place where I can pay by the pound or bag, to drop off debris?

No jokes about driving around and looking for dumpsters please.

Landfill/Transfer Stations in or Close to Brooklyn

I am trying to find a landfill or transfer station to dump one cargo van’s worth of rubbish (lath, plaster, toilets, cabinets, etc.) I found one in Oxford, NJ (about 70 miles away) but was wondering if anyone knew of a closer one.

And yes I know about the curbside, BIG and CL hauler options. So just landfills if anyone knows of any.

Thanks!
