Want to build a deck/room on roof – How do I find out about air rights?

Hi,

I am in the process of speaking with an architect to draw up plans for a roof deck or preferable an extra room on the roof (not the entire roof, maybe 2/3). How do I find out if I have air rights? If not, can I still build a deck or room?

Thanks.

Stoop Columns Require Urgent Repair…

Hi,

We are a 3 family brownstone and the funds in our condo association are extremely limited. Unfortunately, we have relatively urgent repair work that needs to be done on our stoop and columns. There is no way that we have enough money in the kitty to fund the work, so how would we go about getting a loan to cover the cost of the repair?

We can certainly increase the monthly dues to cover the payment of the loan.

Any feedback much appreciated. Thanks.

Cornice

I’m doing some spring cleaning and getting rid of some of the components for a cornice, specifically all the small corbels needed for a 25 foot run,as well as the patterns which make it very easy to create the large corbels, using some basic power tools. I have a few pieces of PVC molding as well, which when all put together forms a pretty nice cornice. I’d be happy to walk someone through the process as well. Installing a cornice is not tough to do if taken in manageable steps. Free to whoever wants it, but you must take it all (don’t worry, I’m not trying to throw a bunch of junk in there as well). Epa-Certified Contractor for Brownstone Reno

hello brownstoners,
anyone have recommendations for epa-certified contractors who do structural work? we are looking to replace the rear parlor wall with glass panels and doors.
children in the house, so the contractor must be epa-certified as well as meticulous and efficient.

Bar Design

Any recommendations on a service or designer who can help us design a bar. We will use a trusted carpenter to help us with the actually construction, but we will need someone to help us with the plans and design for the bar itself.

We would like to optimize price and quality so not looking for an award winning design, but something tasteful that will fit well in a turn of the century Brooklyn Brownstone.

Please suggest any recs that you may have.

insulation

Hi All,

Recently bought into a new construction building (about 3 years old) and it does not seem to be well insulated. Is there 1. a way to find out if insulation was done correctly in building (all units complain of same issue) 2. is there a specialist in engineering we would have to hire to look into this. 3. anyone out there living in modern glass and metal homes have similar issue?

thanks as always….

Contractor Recommendation

I recently purchased an apartment in a BK Co-Op and after interviewing a number of contractors, I am considering going with Ekram at Innovation Construction. It’s a fairly straightforward job, just kitchen/bath/skim coating/paint and minor electrical. Does anyone have any experience working with this firm?

Can’t Find a Wall Stud

Hey guys, I want to hang a flat screen TV but I’m having trouble locating the studs. It needs to hang on the inside of the street-side wall (front wall) between two windows about 4 feet apart. I’m using a Zircon i65 which is finding studs on other interior walls – is it possible there are no studs here? I got a bunch of seemingly false positives but nothing, well…solid. Short of cutting a slice out of my wall to find the studs, any thoughts? Mopar? Tinkers? Bueller??? Tks.
