I have a staircase that is really steep. Can someone recommend a good carpenter? The job will require some structural changes such as widening the opening and adjusting some floor beams.

So I have decided to build my own in-wall bookcase. Over the weekend, I went to home depot to look at wood. I’ve been reading up on what the best material to use is and it looks like it’s solid oak for stability and ability to hold heavier loads through time without buckling. I have a few questions:
1) If I buy wood like shown in the photo, do I have to treat it first? Will the wood warp overtime?
2) As you can see, for the 12 inch wide red oak wood slats, it’s $7.62 per foot. Is there any place to buy the wood cheaper in Brooklyn?
3) Would it be dumb to paint it right? I love the look of white bookcases.

need someone to repair replacement windows that do not stay up

Has anyone had any experience building their own in-wall bookcases? I’ve search the web and found very dinky looking ones. I want one that will be able to support a library ladder.

I’m looking for a custom made computer desk. Really simple, a rectangular 67 x 20″ desk that is to be mounted in a wall pocket – i.e. attached on sides and back to “float” in the wall pocket.

Would like the finish to be white laminated plywood with exposed plywood edge. As this is a simple cut I’m looking for either a woodworking shop who would be willing to make this desk or a store that may sell pre-laminated plywood so that I can cut myself. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I would like to change the legs on my coffee table to make it into a dining table. Anyone have experience with a good carpenter? Any idea what a job like this would cost? Carpenters, please chime in as well…

I need a 15’6″ stockade fence erected in my PS back yard. I have a design picked out and need it constructed and (properly) installed. I have received a reasonable quote from an outfit called Guardian Gates out of Jamaica (they seem to do work throughout the city). Anyone have any experience with them? Any other suggestions?

Has anyone had experience working with John Ragnatelli from Elite Architectural Woodworks? We are performing what we hope will be a high-end renovation on a brownstone in Park Slope and received John’s name as a potential custom kitchen cabinet and furniture maker.

I’m moving to a new construction condo in W’Burgh.

I’m not happy with the venting in the kitchen, so I’m installing a filter-vent microwave above the stove. (Its on an interior wall, so can’t vent to exterior).

There is currently a wide cabinet (about 46″ – I need to re-measure)above the gas stove. I plan to replace it with a 16″ wide cabinet and a 30″ microwave.

I’d like to match the rest of the cabinets. Can anyone identify these? The interiors look a lot like Ikea, but I don’t think the exteriors are Ikea.

I’m hoping to be able to purchase retail.
