Consignment Shop
Does anyone know of a Brooklyn antique shop that will take a piece on consignment? I’ve been trying to sell this large sideboard/hutch, but realize that it would do better with a professional. Any suggestions?
Financing a Gas Boiler
When I changed from oil to gas in 1985, Brooklyn Union Gas offered a great financing package to cover the changeover, installation, and the cost of the new equipment. It’s time to install a state-of-the-art new gas boiler and water heater, and I need a creative way to finance it. I don’t want to take out a second mortgage or a home loan. Anyone know of a government or utility company program that would offer a loan to cover this upgrade?
Squeaky Floors
When we moved into our home 25+ years ago, our general contractor fixed the squeaky parquet parlor floors and sub-contracted the refinishing of the floors. It’s time to get this done again. My specific concern are the squeaky floors: they really are a nuisance and they extend all over the parlor floor, from the entrance door to the far corners.
My question is this: do I have to hire a different contractor to fix the squeaky floors from the company I hire to refinish the floors? Will a good refinishing company be able to (I assume) screw down the squeaky floorboards, fill in the holes, and sand and refinish the floor?
TIA
House Cleaner – Triplex
We own a small house in Fort Greene and need someone to clean our triplex space every two weeks for about 6 hours). We’ve had a cleaner for a few years who was doing a good job, and then he suddenly disappeared – didn’t show up, didn’t answer his cell phone, etc. Losing a house cleaner during the holidays has been difficult, so we’re desperate to get someone on board ASAP. Our budget is limited (we paid our cleaner $15 an hour), but we’re very low maintenance clients with no children or pets.
Can you recommend an individual (not a service) who might be able to handle this job? Thanks, in advance, for your help.
Carpenter for French Doors
We have a pair of heavy french doors that we’d like to repurpose as screen doors to our back yard. We’re looking for a reliable carpenter/handyman who can replace the glass with screening, patch, clean up and paint the doors, and install them.
Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.
Faux Wood Painting for Front Door
Several years ago, two guys from Park Slope painted the front wooden doors of my house. They used a layering and graining technique that made the doors look like solid mahogany. They did a great job and were very professional and affordable.
Now it’s time to get them done again, and I can’t locate Mark or Haynes (the two guys from Park Slope). Anyone know of someone that does this kind of work? The doors need to be treated with a special final coat because they are exposed to the elements.
Thanks
