How Many Feet?

Hi All,
Wondering if anybody can answer this. I own a two family, semi-detached house, zoned R6, with a very large side-yard. If I were to build a building on that side yard, how many feet away from my house(which has many windows along that side) would be required before the line of the new building? There was never a building there previously. Also, the next house on the adjoining lot has no windows facing onto the side yard, presumably because I own the air rights. Thanks for any info.

Clogged Downspout

My downspout is full of water, almost all the way to the top (one full story). It`s been hours and hours since last night`s heavy rain. How can I unclog it? Or is it the drain in the street that`s backing it up? Thanks for any advice!!

Really Heavy Safe

I need to remove a really big heavy Victorian safe from a room in my basement. It needs to go up a short flight of four stairs. It weighs at least a ton and is on casters. Does anybody know who I should call?

Plumbing Permit Backup?

My plumber’s office just told me that despite filing all the paperwork for the job I’ve hired them to do two months ago, the DOB is so backed up that it could be four or five months before they get the permit and job number and that there’s some new policy the DOB has started called “prefiling” where the paperwork sits around for a while before it’s actually processed (meanwhile the DOB has cashed the check)….Is anybody else out there experiencing this sort of thing or did I hire the wrong pumber? This is a small part of a larger job that is now feeling like the lynchpin.

French Drain, etc.

Can anyone out there recommend a company you used to install a sump pump and a french drain and in general advised you correctly about completely waterproofing your basement? Thanks!

“Brownstone” Paint

Does anybody know a specific color name of a paint that is used to match the color and “feeling” of brownstone? I cannot afford to restore my stoop yet, so until then I would at least like it to look tidy and natural. Maybe the best route would be to remove existing peeling “brown” paint and leave it alone. Any thoughts?

upload help

Every time I try to upload a jpeg onto the forum, the same thing happens: the screen says “please wait a moment for your post to appear” and then the brownstoner page goes completely blank, white, and my post never posts.
When I don`t try to upload an image, everything works. What am I doing wrong?

Getting Rid of Stuff

Hi all, I need to get rid of some things and I thought somebody out there may be interested. I have a barely-been-used, like new Magic Chef wine cooler(30 bottles) model #MCWC30MCG. $100 or best offer. Also I have a small clawfoot tub that I could picture being used in a child`s bathroom. It`s VERY cute but it`s not a real old one, it`s a replica and is very clean and white and is not enameled iron, but some sort of composit. $50 or best offer. Also I have a glass tank aquarium in good condition. all accoutraments included(lights, warming rock, stones, etc. Free, just please get it out of my apartment…
