Bonneville/LePage Windows
Anybody have Bonneville or Le Page Windows? It seems that Le Page was started by the Bonneville family. Thoughts?
Again With the Windows
About a month ago, I posted about my brick to brick window replacement needs.
Well, I haven’t gotten very far.
Bay Ridge Windows only gave me the verbal quote for $23k and never emailed the written. I didn’t want to chase them down, but called over the weekend and was assured I’d receive it by Monday. Still nothing.
Historic Windows quoted $34k. Since I was shocked by $23k, I won’t be paying $34k for my windows. Just can’t afford that. Momma needs a deck out back too.
So today I will try S&E Building. Has anyone used their installers? A few folks recommended I use my own carpenter, but the carpenters I usually use are pretty slow and I’d like to have windows by next winter. Any window installer referrals?
Thanks!
Brick2Brick Windows
Sooo, I got a window quote and I’m bummed about the cost.
If anyone has some options they would like to share, it would be much appreciated!
This is the story…
We have crappy vinyl replacements from the 80′s. The front of the house feels like we’re leaving the windows wide open. Drafty! We’d like to replace all windows in the house.
Area is not currently landmarked, but it’s in the works. We want to get this done by next winter.
Here’s the problem: The front windows are an odd shape. They have a little arch on the top. So, these would be custom. The quote was about $3800 apiece for all wood, Marvin.
Obviously, it would be a lot less expensive if it wasn’t brick to brick, but we really want to take it back and insulate.
The back will be fiberglass replacements. They were less than $1000 apiece.
This quote was from Bay Ridge Windows. He’s coming back with an estimate from a factory other than Marvin.
My question is…Does this sound like a fair price for custom Marvins? Is there something we’re overlooking that may give us similar quality and aesthetics?
Thanks!
Antique Dining Chairs
I have 6 dining room chairs that really don’t match my table and I need to part with them.
Here’s the story:
I bought these about 6 years ago at an antique show. The vendor told me they were early 1800′s from Britain (he was British). That’s about all I know. They aren’t marked.
I’m looking for $600 OBO for the set of six. They are structurally sound, but the there is some wood damage (mainly on only 1 chair) and it would look a lot better if the seats were reupholstered (IMO).

Seltzer Delivery
I’m getting my first old school seltzer delivery in about an hour and I don’t know if I’m supposed to tip this guy.
Quick! It’s his own delivery business and I happen to know that he more than doubles the cost of each bottle.
Tip him for each delivery or at the holidays???
Bed Stuy Pet Sitter?
Having difficulty finding a pet nanny in my neck of the woods. Anyone know of a pet sitter who service Bed Stuy or maybe even Clinton Hill or Crown Heights as I’m kind of just across the border.
Thanks!
Windows: Advice please
We have extremely crappy vinyl window throughout the house. They’ll need to be replaced eventually, but we just don’t have the money now.
The seal has been broken on a few of them and they are fogged. Our tenant is bugging us to get it fixed and is willing to split the cost of repair. Repair means replacing the glass and resealing and it isn’t extremely expensive.
Here’s my question…Should we just do this inexpensive temporary fix or get 3 replacement windows? Temporary fixes seem a waste of time, but thinking about this right now is giving me a headache.
The catch: Our block is designated to be landmarked in the near future. We would install proper historic windows with or without landmarks, but how much of a pain is it to deal with them?
Free Tongue and Groove
I don’t know if this is still available, but I just realized I forgot to share it with my Brownstoner buddies this morning.
Reclaimed wide plank tongue and groove for free!

24 Hour Storage
I feel like I’ve looked into just about every storage facility in Brooklyn now and I cannot find one with 24 hour access. Anyone know of something near Bed Stuy/Ft Greene that has some decent Sunday hours, at least? I’d need 7am-7pm. I don’t get it…this is NYC. What if someone needs to get to their stuff at 3am?
Building Supply Place
Has anyone tried that building supply place on Atlantic in Bed Stuy/Ocean Hill/ENY? I think it’s called Park something. Any feedback?
