Masonry Problem
we have a problem with water in the wall of the unattached side of our brownstone. We had a home inspector come by and he said it was most likely a crack in the side wall, or it could be the roof, or perhaps the back wall needed re-pointing. He then described standing and hosing the wall for about an hour to see if there were “results”. Am not quite sure what that means in terms of the rapidity of seeing results. Would that be immediate, or would it be several days? Also, I assume we should remove the crumbling and staining before doing this so that we can see something new. Is there a company that would do this for us? The thought of dangling over the edge of a four storey brownstone with a hose for an hour is not terribly appealing. Also, does anyone have a mason that they would reccommend for this type of work? What about the mold that is already present? Does that need special work, or will the mending of the leak fix everything?
masonry
just an update. I went with New York Restorations Inc. per amsr recommendation and was very satisfied with their work and would have no problem recommending them for any masonry work.
Masonry
Has anyone used New York Restorations to do work for them on the wall of the house to fix leaks?

Water Leak
We have a water leak, we suspect on the unattached side of our brownstone, and have consulted an engineer who said we could probably define where it was coming from by watering the side of the building for an hour with a hose. If that showed no effect we could repeat the process on the back wall and lastly again by flooding the roof. However, we are older women for whom the prospect of hanging over the edge of the roof with a garden hose for the best part of an hour is not terribly appealing. Is there anyone who would do this for us, or does anyone know of another way to test for water. We know that inside the walls are saturated. We have recently had a parapet cap installed (6-7 months ago). We have also recently had the roof patched and it was pronounced in fine shape.
