Hey, I’d like to recommend Bay Ridge Carpets, who just did a great job carpeting a staircase in my unit and doing linoleum in the tenant’s apt. Measured once, brought samples i picked at the store so I could see in the light/space, came on time and worked fast.

Heating Blues


Hi, we replaced our gas boiler this summer, it’s a hot water single-pipe system. For some reason, the radiator in front parlor is not getting as hot as it once did. It’s warm on the top but rather cool on the bottom. The radiator located in the back of the same floor is hot to the point i can’t hold my hand on the top. Water flows from the bleeder. Any ideas from the plumbing experts out there, you think it’s sediment/oxidation in the radiator or something else?

Linoleum or Marmoleum


Hey, looking to put a checkerboard black/white pattern in our tenant’s kitchen. Anyone use this stuff and can you suggest installers/sources that do a good job? The floor is not perfectly level as this is an old brownstone…thanks

Timing – Stoop Repair


Hi, I need to re-brownstone my chipped/painted stoop. In a landmark district so have to use a quality guy, I’m thinking Z Abendin.

Question is, should I do this work now as it’s getting colder and could freeze at any time? Probably better to wait until next spring summer no? Thanks for any advice.

New Gas Boiler Cost?


Hi, thinking of replacing my early 70s era gas boiler with something more efficient…and one I don’t have to worry about breaking down in the dead of winter.

How much would you think a replacement gas boiler for a hot water system should cost (boiler + installation)? 2 zones currently, heating a 4500 sq ft brownstone.

Vent Bathroom Exhaust Fan to Roof


Hi, I’m looking to install a bathroom fan in the top floor of my brownstone, no window and not accessible to exterior wall. Anyone have any suggestions on what type of cap/waterproofing methods to use if I wanted to do a 3 in vent hole in my flat roof? And where could i pick up the gear on a Saturday, Home Desperate?

Water Temp Variation Question


My upstairs tenant is reporting fluctuations in shower temperature (too hot/cold) when someone else is taking a shower at the same time. That apartment is equipped with a circa 1970s or 80s shower body with 2 separate knobs to control water temp.

Any suggestions on how to address this? Gracias.
