Air Conditioner BTU Question
We have to replace 3 air conditioners in our apartment. They need to be “through the wall” units, not window units. There is a sale on 12,000 BTU units so we plan to get this size for our living room/dining room area. Our bedrooms are much smaller and do not require 12,000 BTUs. The sale, however, makes the price for this size less than the price for a smaller unit. The air conditioning guy is telling me it’s okay to install these units in the bedrooms, that we can just not use all the capacity-i.e. set the thermostat where we want it and it just won’t need all the capacity to keep the temperature at that level. Is he right or is it a bad idea to put these units in our bedrooms? We would be saving a few hundred dollars.
Good Chinese in Carroll Gardens?
I realize this may be a bit off topic, but can anyone recommend a good Chinese restaurant in Carroll Gardens? We moved to the neighborhood in the fall and have tried a few places only to be disappointed every time. If anyone could point us towards a good one we would be very grateful!
Hot Water Problem
We recently purchased an apartment with its own (fairly new) Burnham boiler for heat and hot water. The heat is fine but the hot water has an issue. Partway through a shower it gets cold then warm again. This problem is less when the heat is on and does not seem to occur when the dishwasher is running. Any ideas of what this could be before we call in a plumber? Is our tank too small? Thanks!
Baseboard Heating Covers
We are renovating our apartment. It has baseboard heating and the covers are a mess-missing pieces, layers of paint, etc. We would like to replace the covers since they are such an eyesore and have been told that we would need to know the make, model, etc. to get new covers. We cannot, however, find any markings to let us know. It would seem to me that this should be an easy thing to replace but we are hitting a wall. We do not want to do custom covers due to the cost and the fact that the baseboards are largely covered with furniture. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Kraftmaid Venecia-filler Pieces
We are currently renovating our kitchen with Kraftmaid Venecia cabinets. The filler pieces and side refrigerator panel are the finish of the interior of the cabinets, meaning they are slightly off from the outside color of the cabinetry. Our salesperson at Loew’s is comping us a cabinet door to cut and use as the small filler pieces (which our contractor thinks is crazy). But this won’t work for the large refrigerator panel. The Loew’s guy says this is just how the Venecia cabinet filler/panels are, our contractor thinks this can’t be true. Any input would be much appreciated as we are at our wits end. Thanks in advance.
Labor Cost for Kitchen Reno
My husband and I recently bought a co-op in Brooklyn and are doing a basic kitchen renovation. We are not moving walls, changing the location of any electrical or moving any plumbing. We will just be installing new cabinets, new appliances and new flooring. I know that each job will vary based on complexity, etc., but I am interested to hear what people think we should be paying our contractor for labor and costs. Any thoughts regarding the range of what we can expect would be much appreciated.
Basic Kitchen Reno-Need Permit?
My husband and I recently bought a co-op in Brooklyn and are thinking of doing a basic kitchen renovation. We are not moving walls, changing the location of any electrical or moving any plumbing. We will just be installing new cabinets, new appliances and new flooring. My understanding is that we do not need a permit for this type of thing. Is this correct? Thanks in advance for all replies.
