In Search of Interior Pocket Shutters


All our windows have interior pocket shutters — glued into the wall. But when I removed them only the outside panel was there — the two interior ones that should fold out had been removed by a previous owner.

Apart from Eddie’s Salvage, any thoughts on where I might find some? I guess there’s no standard size but each of the missing panels is around 44″ by 9″.

Forced Air Heat Question


Does anyone have a recommendation for a good heating engineer? We have an oil burner/forced air.

We need another duct installed to the first floor and want someone to check the system. Our bill for oil last year was very high – and we think there may be something wrong with the vents/returns, so heat is just pouring out of the house.

Energy Audits


And what’s the average cost of the audit? (ConEd and National Grid don’t seem to be doing them for free any more…) Has anyone used any of the contractors recommended on NYSERDA (the state energy research authority)? The Brooklyn list is at http://www.getenergysmart.org/Resources/FindPartner.aspx?t=4 . Or have their own recommendations for someone to do an energy audit?
