central a/c with forced hot air


hi there,
i am thinking about installing centeral air in my 4 story brownstone. currently i have a forced hot air heating system which i love. i have been told that i can use the same vents for central a/c. i have also been told that i can’t. any comments? or suggestions as to who would do this?
