South Slope Farmers Market?

There used to be a small Farmer’s Market in the playground on 6th ave between 18th and 19th Street. Does anyone know anything about this? Is this going to come back?

Requesting a Street Tree

Has anyone gone through the process of requesting the parks department plant a street tree in front of their home? Does it work? Is it annoying? Should I just do it myself and pay for it? We just moved into our home, and there are a lack of trees on our block in South Slope. Would love to change that…

Dry Well or Drain Update

Last week I posted a question about these clogged drain-like things in my back yard. It turns out they are…wait for it…DRY WELLS! We’ve got two dry wells back there. So I guess we need to add a drain? We have a rainwater (from the roof) pip in the back yard, so it shouldn’t be hard to add one, I don’t think. We need to redo the concrete in our little patio area…I can do that concrete work in the winter right?

Thanks again brownstoners!!!

Cracked Waste Line

Hello again brownstoners! You all have been such a great resource for this new homeowner, thanks. We’ve got a visible crack in our waste line in the the basement–nothing too crazy looking–but we want to fix it before it gets worse. Does anyone have a plumber recommendation? What should this cost me? Is it a huge job? The crack is about 3-4″ right at the point the waste line goes into our cement basement floor.

Thanks!!!

Dry Well or Drain?

Hi all, we’re new homeowners (yay) and we’ve got two completely clogged drains in our backyard, clogged with dirt and roots. I pulled a ton of dirt out yesterday but reading another previous post on a similar subject, I am now wondering if this is a drain or a dry well? This may be a stupid question, but how do I know if it is a drain or dry well? I was going to get someone out to snake the drain.

Thanks as always…

Condo Conversion Question

My wife and I are thinking of putting an offer on an apartment that is part of a whole building condo conversion, but the agent said that the condo closings are planned for January.

How reliable are things like this and what does the process look like? We sign a contract and put a down payment in now and wait until next year to move in? Is this normal? What if, while we are waiting for next year, we find something better OR what if the whole thing doesn’t work out or something? What are your thoughts on this whole thing in general?

The price and location seem pretty good.

Many thanks.

Yours,

Noodlemania

Using a Buyers Agent?

Do you think using a buyers agent is a bad idea? Are sellers agents less willing to split commissions? Will it reduce the chances of getting a bid accepted? We’re new to all this.

New Heating System Cost?

Hey Brownstoners,

I’m trying to buy a small 2-story, one family in queens that has a wicked old forced air system with one big vent for the whole house. We don’t have much $$ but obviously we need to have heat. What is a good ballpark cost for installing a new boiler, radiators and piping for a 1,000 sq/foot home? Also. any recommendations for heating companies?

Thanks!
