Sanitation Finks Admit to Intentional Slowdown

The Post is running an article this morning about several sanitation workers and supervisors that have come forward to confess there was indeed an effort to slowdown work and cripple the city in protest of budget cuts.

Sewer Line Clean out

Looking for some recommendations for a company to snake/clean out the main sewer line and house trap for a 4 story townhouse.

Also anyone know the range I can expect to pay for this type of service.

Thanks!

R Train Horror

Anyone else notice the R train in Brooklyn Really Really sucks since they took the M out of service? Last 3 days I had to wait at least 10-15 Min at Atlantic just to force my way onto a crowded train, and then force my way back out with 10,000 other people when they decide to run it express since it is so overcrowded and delayed.

The wait in the morning seems to also have increased significantly.

Just venting I guess…

Installing Carpet Over Tile

I am interested in putting carpet in my basement which consists completely of large 1′X 1′ ceramic tile. I have read some things that carpet cannot be installed over tile and it would need to ripped up and installed on wood.

Before wasting the time of various carpet installers to come over for a quote, I was wondering if this is something that could be done? Is this something maybe carpet tiles would be useful for?

Thanks!

Confirming New Building Rumors

I was speaking to some neighbors who insist they have been hearing the new project at 574 Fourth Avenue, featured several times on Brownstoner per link below, is actaully slated to become housing for recovering drug addicts with a drug clinic on the first floor.

http://www.brownstoner.com/brownstoner/archives/2009/07/development_wat_457.php

It seems like a ridiculous rumor given the community board and others would likely make news of this, but I was wondering if there is any public records or sources that could be used to confirm on deny the rumors?

Thanks!

Forced Air Humidifier

Looking to install a whole house humidifier on our central air unit. Anyone know who I should be calling to perform the installation? HVAC company, plumber? Also any idea of the cost to install? I have seen some of the units go for $150-$250.

Thanks!

Yellow Water

So yesterday I noticed that the water coming from our taps, toilet, etc. had a yellow tint. This is true for both hot and cold even after running it for several minutes. This has happened before and usually resolves itself within a few hours. Everything is back to normal, but I was wondering if this is as common for other people and if their is a known cause or danger.

Intercom Wiring

Trying to get some ballpark figures to compare to a quote to re-wire an intercom system for a 4 story townhouse.

Basically entails running a wire to replace an existing wire that is faulty. The quote we got seemed a little excessive to run a wire for an existing 4 intercom system. Anyone that has any experience with this or something similiar and would care to share what it should cost would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
