Need Contractor/Handyman for Misc Projects

I’m looking for a contractor to work on multiple smaller projects (skylight replacement, new exterior door, garden paving). Does anyone have a recommendation for a reliable, good-value contractor or experienced handyman? Thanks

Large Planters – Custom Size

Hi –
I’m thinking of adding a wood planter (approx. 15′ x 2′ x 2′)to my backyard. It doesn’t seem that much more than a simple (yet fairly strong) box with some lining in it to prevent rotting. I called a few places and they basically said that it would be over $2k to get 3 ready-made ones of 5ft wide each. Seems like a lot for a box… Does anyone have experience in making them by yourself or a recommendation on a cheaper alternative? Thanks

Skylight Building Code Expertise

Hi – following up on an earlier post re skylights, I’m trying to understand the code requirements for glazing of skylights over shafts and stairwells. The code reads “(2) GLAZING. -
a. Skylights over stairways and shafts. – Skylights
placed over stairways and shafts shall be glazed with
plain glass not more than one-eighth inch thick or
unreinforced plastic not more than three-sixteenths of
an inch thick.”.

I have two single-pane pyramid skylights there and want to replace them ideally with fixed, flat double-paned glass ones. The original venting uses are probably not as important anymore, but I don’t understand whether the code prohibits the installation of those ones. Can anyone help me understand what’s allowed? Thanks

Skylights – installation recommendation

I am looking to replace 2 leaky old skylights (above lightshafts), of the metal frame with wired glass variety seen on lots of brownstones. I’m thinking of replacing with double pane fixed skylights. Could anyone give recommendations for the installers and an idea of how much replacing them would cost? Thanks
