Termite Advice
Our neighbor’s shed and fence appear to have termites. The shed is about 20 feet from our houses, at the end of the garden. The only visible fence damage is right by the shed. The neighbor alerted us to the probable termites, and is going to get them exterminated. Do you guys think we should call an exterminator to do whatever they do to our house just in case? Or, since the termites seem to be only pretty far from the house, wait and see what happens after the neighbor has dealt with the situation? Thank you, as ever!
Neighbors Repointing
So… the apartment building next door has been repointing and painting. They have been using our garage roof to gain access to one wall. At no point did any one inform us that this would be going on, let alone ask permission to use our roof. Today, they used a ladder to get into our back garden, pulling up the fence I built to surround my vegetable patch. I phoned the realtor, who passed on my message to the owner. He called to apologise but then informed me that they intend to repoint the entire wall along our back garden, obviously killing lots of our plants. He promises they will “clean up”, but having come home and found my veggie patch torn up, I’m don’t have much faith in their ability to do this without destroying everything. Are we legally bound to allow them to do this, whenever they want? Or can we require them to do it at a time that suits us (i.e., fall or winter, or very early spring. Um, actually, any time that our plants and vegetables aren’t in full swing). Thanks. And ARGH!
Mason?
Can anyone recommend a good mason to replace a few lintels? It is a small job. Thanks.
Anti-scald device
Anyone have any ideas about how to remove (or fix) the anti-scald device on an exposed “rigid riser” shower? Failing that, a reasonably-priced plumber who won’t mind a (hopefully) small job…?
Alarm system
Ok… so the appointment I made with ADT several weeks ago is finally coming up. I deal with them at work and really feel they are useless, but we have a previously installed ADT system in our home already. Is it even worth the hassle? I don’t want random false alarms and phonecalls. ADT stickers are all over everything, and we’ve been here over a year with so far no sign of trouble from the crackheads next door. The insurance co. did not query me saying “there is a system but it’s not connected” when I got my insurance…. Do we bother? Or save the $$ and get a dog/scarier cats? Thanks!
