I ordered a custom made sofa from Beckenstein Fabric and Interiors, 32 West 20th Street, NYC.

The sofa arrived with a horrible smell.

After much wrangling, Garry Greenberg, the owner, promised to have the cushions which were stuffed with rancid down, remade.

They returned the “new” cushions to me, and none of them were remade

Two cushions were restuffed and the other two hadn’t been touched.

They still smell. Beckenstein lied to me. The sofa cost a small fortune. And now i am stuck with a defective product, that my credit card company won’t allow a charge dispute because smell is an “intangible” defect.

I have filed a complaint with the Department of Consumer Affairs.

If anyone has other suggestions as to how i can correct this situation, I’d welcome them.

Beckenstein, supposedly reputable, obviously its not. I don’t recommend use their service.

I spoke to H and A upholsterers in Dumbo about all of this. They said that Beckenstein should have replaced the entire sofa.

I want everyone to get the word out.
Don’t shop there.
