belgian blocks

Did a search, but still can’t figure out where to buy belgian blocks (and maybe old brick) in brooklyn other than Lowes. One person mentioned Ranieri, which I’ll check out. Any other suggestions. Don’t need much.

anybody want an ugly but functional door

I’m getting rid of a painted wood door, totally basic, with dead bolt, functioning knob, lock, keys, hinges. Size is 32″ x 83 1/2. Park slope. Free. Or I’ll just chop it in half and throw it away.

Deck Floor and Spiral Stairs

Sorry in advance to those of you who don’t care about decks, but to answer a couple of questions it’s easier to post another pic. The spiral stair was built by Lopopolo and brought to our house in two or sections. I went with slats because they seem easier on the feet, and will be easier to repaint.

deck recommendation

After having gotten lots of advice from this forum here’s what I ended up doing:
For various reasons we had to have all metal. Scott Schnall did the drawings and got all the permits, and I found him easy to work with and responsive. To build the deck I got about 5 bids, and used Lopopolo Iron ((718) 339-0572). They were by far the least expensive and were fantastic. Joe spent time with me, listened to what I wanted, came up with some ideas. The men who did the work were nice, efficient, very competent, and cleaned up. There were a couple of details that bothered me after the job was done, and they have been completely responsive about coming to touch up. Yay! And for those of you who wonder about metal decks, even on hot days the floor hasn’t been hot to the touch.

Anyone Have Pics of Their Deck Doors?

daveinbedstuy–you recommended allied arborcraft for my window to door conversion. Do you happen to have any pics of the job he did building your door lying around? Anyone else? Because the door opening is only 32 inches I’m having a single door even though I love double doors.
Thanks!

Metal Deck Paint

Has anyone painted their metal deck with flat paint? Does it wear as well as glossy black? Any tips on painting already primed wrought iron? Brand of paint you particularly like? More than 1 coat? Thanks!

Any Experience with Lopopolo Iron Works

Getting bids for our all metal deck, and really liked Lopopolo iron works. Anybody worked with them? How were they?

Metal Deck Decisions

Just got all my building/historic district permits to build all metal parlor floor deck (no wood allowed at all bec. of building configuration). Also need to make door through a window, which involves masonry work. I’ve gotten these names thru bwnstoner:
Ricardo and Armand Petrillo. Also Architectural Iron Co in Pa. which makes components. Sketch and Hammer would only do it if I agree to get a wooden pallett, and then acts as a contractor with her metal guy. I’d like someone who can build a slightly ornamental but not staten islandy (sorry) look. Three questions: Any strong feelings about iron guys? How do I communicate what look I want? And who can I get to do the window to door…has to be able to “pull the permit”, whatever that means.

Wrought Iron Fencing

I love this kind of New Orleans wrought iron. We’re putting in an all metal deck…never seen this style here in Bklyn. Do any of you have something like it? Is it prohibitively expensive? Who would do this kind of work? All I see here is a standard kinds of ironwork with very little decorative element.

Tile Installer

Anyone have any recommendations or someone they loved other than Rob Mara who seems to have disappeared? Hopefully nothing bad happened. Someone who has installed glass tiles, and whose work I can see? Thanks!
