heating system maintenance service plan
I’m looking for a recommendation for a home heating system maintenance service plan. This is for a forced air gas fueled system.
New Taxes!
Get a whiff of this. The WSJ has written that Mayor Bloomberg is thinking of proposing for private residences a charge for garbage collection. But Mayor Bloomberg, this service is already paid for now by our taxes. I wonder if the Mayor is thinking of setting up an appointed Garbage Board to set rates. This way politicians don’t have to dirty their hands when rates are increased. This will probably work in the same way our water and sewer rates are reasonably set by the Water Board, with annual double digit increases. What are they going to do when someone doesn’t pay? Cut off their garbage collection. Mayor Bloomberg keep busy. Go paint another line in the street!
ConEd Level Billing
I just received the new calculation for my level payment plan from conEd, which amounts to a 30% or$60 a month increase in my payments. The amount I owed to conEd at the end of last year’s level billing was equal to 5% or $15 a month. I could not get an explanation from the conEd representative as to how the new level billing amount was calculated. I was told to take it on leave it. Anyone recently experiencing anything like that with their level billing payments? Is there any recourse?
muni-meter parking
Now that muni-meters are in affect on 7th Ave, here’s a couple of questions I hope some erudite person can answer. What is your responsibility when a muni-meter is broken and you want to park? Can you use the unexpired time on a muni-meter slip at another parking location?
HELP NEEDED! Window repair.
The frame of a bedroom window has rotted out and outside air is getting in. I attempted a temporary repair. It didn’t work and I need help fairly fast. Any suggestions as to who to call would be greatly appreciated.
Reasonable Estimate?
The electronic air filter of my home’s heating unit isn’t working. I paid $180 to have an HVAC contractor diagnose the problem. The unit needs to be replaced. The cost of a new unit is $650, plus a labor estimate of 3 hours at a $175 an hour for a worker and a helper to install it. The filter is easily accessible . Does the labor charge sound reasonable?
Sidewalk replacement
I need to replace a concrete sidewalk in front a brownstone located in an land marked district in Brooklyn. Any positive recommendations for contractors would be appreciated. Thanks.
Fixing a sidewalk
Who is responsible for fixing a damaged cement sidewalk in front of a 1 family home in a land marked neighborhood? Does the city do it and bill the homeowner? Can a homeowner do it or do you need a licensed contractor? What permits are needed, if any? There have been no violations issued. However, my homeowner insurance carrier has notified of this need for the repair. If the homeowner repairs it, does the homeowner assume liability for any injuries caused by the repaired sidewalk? Thanks for any responses.
