Fall Flower Help


Hi All,

I am getting in the spirit of autumn and would like to put some flower pots on our stoop and in the tree pit in front of our house. Last year we did mums in pots on the stoop, but nothing in the tree pit. Right now the tree pit has some lingering impatiens and withering hostas.

Any suggestions for fall flowers other than mums? (Soliciting suggestions for both the stoop and the tree pit.)

Also, should I dig out the impatiens and plant whatever fall annuals you recommend or just plant around them. They’re bound to die soon, but they’re still kicking at the moment.

Home Theater Query


All of a sudden our receiver and/or speaker/subwoofer, which is a part of our home theater surround sound set-up, isn’t working. When the receiver is turned on there is a popping sound from the speakers that sounds like the speakers have busted. There are four speakers that are installed in the ceiling and the center speaker which sits on the tv stand, (plus the subwoofer). The tv is wall mounted (not sure that’s relevant). Anyway, we are looking for someone who can come by and figure out what’s going on with the receiver/sound. I have no idea who to call. (System was installed in January 2009 by the Circuit City people, Firedog, I think the were called.)

Outdoor Lighting for Brownstone


We are looking for an outdoor, ceiling mount, dusk-to-dawn or motion sensor light for our front (top of stoop) entrance. Something that will fit the brownstone aesthetic. If anyone can recommend a store or stores where we might find such a fixture, please let me know.

Garden Demo Work Needed


Does anyone have any recommendations for someone who can do some demolition work in our backyard, including breaking up concrete and hauling it off. We have someone in mind for the actual renovation of the backyard, but are trying to lower our costs by having some cheaper labor do the demo work in advance. Any leads are appreciated.
