heating engineer needed

I’m in a two unit brownstone that is in the process of separating a forced air gas heating system so that each unit has its own heat. I’m looking for someone who will serve as a consultant for me, let me know how the plans being drawn up by the other unit will effect me and what work I’ll have to do. Any recommendations?

Unscrew Plumber Screw-Up

I recently removed a stall shower in a guest bathroom and installed a tub with faucets and overhead shower controlled by single swivel device. It looked fine – I even posted a favorable review of the plumber – until actually tried it. The device that controlled hot and cold water for the shower worked backwards. Hot water on top, cold water on the bottom. Finally got the plumber to return (not easy)he adjusted something inside the shower control and said it was fixed. That lasted for a few days – something must have slipped, now hot water is in the middle of the dial, cold on either side, plumber refuses to come back again. Anyone think they can fix this so it works properly?

Post Comments

Just tried to post a comment and was told I’m not allowed to do this? Why not? I’ve been registered for quite a while, haven’t been actively posting, but I never thought I needed special qualification to do this.

Plumber recommendation

Sounds like an oxymoron but we really had a headache free bathroom renovation thanks to MJM Plumbing. Quality work at a reasonable price, fast and easy to work with. Call 347-863-9230 and ask for Mike

Insulation Removal

Two years ago I paid Federal Conservation to insulate the crawl space below my roof and told them that I was concerned about the fact that my central AC ducts are located in that space and I wanted to have access to the ducts. Joey assured me that this wouldn’t be a problem. However, he filled the area to capacity–good for keeping out the cold, but making it impossible for the AC people to access the ducts. Now I want the air flow adjusted and called Federal to see if they could figure out a way to remove some of the insulation–but they haven’t returned the 5 calls I left in the last three days. Anyone know how you get insulation OUT of a passage? I don’t want it all out, just enough so the AC people can access the ductwork. It’s too much for a standard vacuum cleaner.

electronic door release system

I’m tired of running downstairs to let in visiting friends. Any recommendations for someone who can add a door release feature to my intercom?

crawl space insulation

I’m interested in insulating the crawl space below the roof in order to stop the top floor of my brownstone from being several degrees colder than the rest of the place. There are currently air conditioning ducts in this space so I’m not considering any kind of blown in insulation which I believe will block my access to the vents in case they need servicing. Does anyone know of a firm that can install rolls of insulation? I really don’t want to do it myself.

crawlspace insulation

Any ideas as to how to insulate the crawlspace under the roof? A recent post discussed unrolling insulation in a crawlspace under the house — who would I hire to do this?
