Sliding Screen Door
The sliding screen door behind the glass door that separates our kitchen from our backyard needs to be replaced. The tracks are beaten on, so I’d replace them as well. Is there anyone in or around the Slope who does this kind of work or am I stuck buying the parts and doing it myself?
Two Questions…
Planning two reno projects, and I could use two bits of community wisdom.
1) What might I expect to get for selling an old clawfoot tub in fine condition?
2) In a non-landmarked Slope building, are there legal height restrictions on backyard fencing?
Boiler Water Drip Continued
Here’s a photo of my boiler. The pipe that’s putting water on the floor is the left-most one, with the green tag. it runs down in front of the boiler and empties onto the floor. Water is still coming out intermittently.
Boiler Water Drip
As a boiler ignoramus, i don’t know if this is a problem or not: this morning there is a small amount of water coming from a pipe that runs down from the top of the boiler nearly to the floor and is not capped. The floor was wet so i put a bucket to catch the water, but is this a problem that needs to be fixed or a normal adjustment that the boiler is making? the pipe doesn’t lead to anything, so it looks like it’s meant to be an exhaust of some sort. PS, our radiators are hot water, not steam.
Radiators Leaking?
It’s our first winter in our Park Slope one-family and when the weather got cold enough for the boiler to get cranking, we began hearing a brief accelerating/decelerating dripping noise in the ceiling of our bedroom every time the heat goes on. Lasts maybe 30 seconds and happens every couple of hours. There are two connected radiators directly above the noise, but no visible signs of a leak. I assume it could be in the wall or in the floor, but could the sound be from something else entirely? i bled all the radiators, which seem full of water, not air. The risers are on the opposite wall from the sound.
Outdoor Gas Lamp
Who you gotta call when you need maintenance on a Park Slope decorative gas lamp in front of the house? Ours is working, but it needs some attention, and I haven’t got a clue who specializes in such things.
Water Heater
In a past thread, someone mentioned using the boiler to heat water in the winter and the hot water heater to do it in the summer. is that difficult to set it up and use it that way or is something any good plumber can do? The house we are buying has a (gas) boiler but no H/W heater, and my understanding is that we’ll save money by not using the boiler year round for water heating
