GC Recommendations for Work on Garage


I’m looking for a contractor to work on a detached garage. The entire roof needs replacing, as well as some minor work on the exterior and interior walls on the garage. Can anyone recommend someone who might work in the Bay Ridge/Dyker Heights/Bensonhurst area?

Also, does anyone know if Home Depot does a decent job with garage doors? I’ll also need to have that replaced.

Roofer Recommendations


I’m looking for a licensed roofer to fix my detached garage. Has anyone heard of All Type Siding & Roofing, Big Apple Roofing & Construction, Hammer Construction, or Roman Roofing? Any recommendations if you haven’t? Thanks!

ants? termites?


I’m pretty sure these are ants, but can someone confirm? I was worried they were termites, but after a google search, it doesn’t seem like it.

I found a bunch of them in my finished basement. They were near the basement door and halfway into the basement. It must have been about 40 of them, which I killed with ant spray. I’ve never seen so many ants at one time inside the house. Why would they come in? And what can I do to prevent them from re-entering? I’ve already sprayed the ant killer around the door area, but I feel this is a very temporary solution when the stuff dissipates. Any suggestions appreciated.

Farmers Insurance… any good?


It seems that the only company that will insure my house is Farmers. the premium is kinda high, but i don’t seem to have a choice. Is this company any good? Anyone have any experience with them?

Can’t Get Insured Near Water


Help! My house is less than 1 mile away from a body of water and I’m having trouble getting insurance. I’ve tried State Farm, Allstate, Geico, and Liberty Mutual. No luck. Does anyone have this problem? Which company did you go with? TSC is the only one who said they could insure it, but I haven’t heard much about this company. Is it any good? Any complaints?
