Leaking Skylight


Does anyone have someone they can recommend to fix a leaking skylight?

I have no information on the manufacturer, but the damn thing has sprung a leak. Is it something I can do myself? What does one use?

Challenging Property Tax Assessment


Help. My property tax assessment is way out of wack. I renovated an SRO, so the original rate was higher. Now that the tax department knows I have a 2 family, my taxes should have gone down. Instead, they went up, and more than 6%. Does anyone have any experience protesting their assessment or the name of a lawyer they have used for a single family home? Thanks.

Has anyone ever had their marble countertops re-polished/re-finished? What was the process and can you recommend anyone who does this type of work? Any help would be much appreciated. I love marble, but mine needs to be “refreshed.”

Open the Walls?


OK, I would love some advice from you a/c heating gurus. We put in the “state of the art” mitsubishi city multi a/c system with heat coil. The problem, it has a small, very slow leak somewhere in the system that shows up abruptly, like last week, when the heat wouldn’t work, or at the height of the summer, when the a/c stopped cooling. The a/c guys come and put more refrigerant in, tighten everything, and hope it won’t happen again, but it did. What should we do? Do we really have to open the walls (this will kill us)? Is there any other way to find such a leak. Mitsubishi engineers say the system is working (when its working.) HELP!

Roof Deck Materials?


We are finally ready to do our roof deck. But we are having trouble deciding on materials. Does anyone have recommendations for railings (that go with a traditional brownstone aesthetic) and decking material. We have already put in all the structural supports. We also like the idea of using planters as railings, but we aren’t sure they will pass the BD inspections. Does anyone have some pictures they can share with us. And yes, we know it won’t be cheap. neighborhood info


I’ve been checking out some houses in Brooklyn Heights, and have some questions about the neighborhood. All you residents out there, which areas are considered less desirable? Is it bad to be too close to Atlantic? Is parking really as difficult as people say. I had a realtor tell me you can park on the street and only have to move once a week. Is this true? Appreciate any info you care to share.

Anyone been inside the Regency limestone house for sale on 1st street between 8th and PPW. It is listed at 2.9 by Elliman, but I think it was once with Corcoran. There are 4 or 5 of them in a row, but I don’t know the exact address. I was wondering what the ceiling heights and details are inside. I absolutely love the outside of the house.
