hardwood floors buckling

Hi,

Our lovely wood floors were fine when we moved into our (relatively) new construction condo 3 months ago. Now the floors boards are separating at the seams and also buckling. Lots of bowing up. What could cause this? Floors were re-done right before we moved in.
Always appreciate the advice and experience of the brownstoners.

insulation

Hi All,

Recently bought into a new construction building (about 3 years old) and it does not seem to be well insulated. Is there 1. a way to find out if insulation was done correctly in building (all units complain of same issue) 2. is there a specialist in engineering we would have to hire to look into this. 3. anyone out there living in modern glass and metal homes have similar issue?

thanks as always….

cement terrace info

Hello All,

Thinking of purchase new construction condo unit. Besides having an inspector look are there any questions we should be asking relator/developer. We know zip about construction. One thing that concerns us is terrace is cement. Though it looks fine and has drainage thinking NY weather could wreak havoc with cracks and whatnot. Paranoid or logical?

Thanks all

Sagging Floors

so how hard is it to fiz sagging floors? Assuming bad foundation or joists are not issues, is it possible to starighten the floors somewhat? Do you have to pull up old floors and place new, put floors over existing, or something else? And is it ridiculous expensive?

thanks all!

How does one find who developer is? I know brownstoners have different opinions about this property but I for one would live there

Living in Gowanus

Thanks to all who have responded to my posts this week. One last biggie: Place we are considering buying is on 11th street below 4th avenue. We are nervous about moving so far from park and seemingly far from services we are accustomed to. However, in exchange we are getting more space for the bucks. Anyone have an opinion about this area good or bad? safety, shopping, noise, pollution,up and coming or ongoing no man’s lands….etc
thanks….

Cost to Build a Deck

Hi brownstoners. any ideas how much it may cost to build a metal deck off third floor of frame house? Condo unit has permission to do so. We would have to open a window into a door for access.

Understand it would be a very loose estimate. Realtor says 10K and that seems very low to me. would only be maybe 8×8

thanks!
