Waterfall/Pond/Fountain Contractor?

I’ve become obsessed with installing a small pond for a water garden and a (perhaps connected?) waterfall or disappearing fountain in my Bed-Stuy backyard. Want to have some fish, maybe, and some aquatic plants. The waterfall/disappearing fountain is to create the sound of flowing water. Anyone done this? Tips? Can you recommend someone to do the installation who knows their stuff? Many thanks!

Iron Guards for Front Door

We have a very nice double wooden entrance door with large glass panes. I feel a little nervous about security – a well-placed hammer would break in rather easily. I’d like to get some decorative wrought iron panels installed to fit the windows inside, so that even of the glass is broken, the vandals can’t reach in and let themselves in. Ricardo the iron worker (recommended here) says he;s hapy to do it, but needs a design. Anyone know where I might find a website with some photos of such things? Or have a better idea? Many thanks!

Need Extra Heat!

We have forced air heat in our brownstone. Unfortunately, the parlor floor hallway is not ducted, nor is the kitchen on the 2nd floor tenant’s unit. Since the bathroom is accessed by traversing the hall, it has become a cold journey! The HVAC folks we use suggested not venting these areas, due to the added duct work being prohibitively expensive. Rather, they suggest a wall-mounted unit of some kind for the kitchen, and a baseboard-like unit for the hallway, or perhaps a floor-mounted electric unit. All with separate thermostats. Thoughts? Recommendations for a place to get this equipment, or should I have our electrician handle it – if he does?
Many thanks!

Boiler “condemned”-need new one

We have a 11 year old Goodman GMP150-5 gas boiler connected to a forced air system for our 3 story brownstone. It stopped working yesterday (great timing!), and National Grid came out and condemned the unit – saying the firewall was rotted out and cracked. Their sales team is supposed to call to try to sell us something new. I’m thinking better to go with an HVAC specialist. I’ve spoken to Phil from Phil’s A/C, and he is coming over soon. Any suggestions for the type of unit we should be thinking about?
Should we get several quotes – i.e Hlad, Gateway , National Grid etc.? I don’t want to take too long – it’s cold – on the other hand – I’d like to do it right (Phil said the unit we have is not the best quality. It was purchased from Keyspan by the previous owner as part of their oil-gas conversion program.) Any advice appreciated. Thanks!

Refrigerator Repair/Replacement?

Ourtenant just left a message that the refrigerator in her apartment isn’t cold anymore. I’ll take a look – but can anyone recommend a reliable refrigerator repair outfit?
Also – if I need to get a replacement, any recommendations on brands and where to get it? I was thinking P.C. Richard or Sears. Thanks!

Advice/Price for Concrete Remove

We have a brownstone in Bed-Stuy, and would like to remove most of the front rectangle of concrete (leaving a path to get to the door under the stoop, and to the bulkhead in front of the house. Basically, we want to have a front garden similar to the ones you see in front of lots of houses in the neighborhood. What’s a reasonable price to remove the concrete? Do I also need to have topsoil delivered? Price for the whole job? Any recommendations for people to do this? Thanks!

Who to hire for Concrete grading?

We had our mud hut removed from our Bed-Stuy brownstone, and nw need to do some back-filling on the piece of ground that was under the mud hut.
Meanwhile, our basement is getting water as a result of the recent rains. WHo can I get to put some concrete in that can be both an attractive patio as well as graded away from the building so we don’t get water into the basement?

Need forced air heating ducts cleaned

I have forced air heat (in Bed-Stuy), and some of the ducts seem to be blowing a little weakly.
I was referred to a company called Envirospect who will use huge fancy vacuums to clean them all – and want about $1000.00 to do so.
Is this a decent price? It seems high.
I’m just wondering who else is out there who does this, and does it well, perhaps for not so much $$$.
Thanks!
