Business in a brwonstone


Basic question:
If I buy a brownstone, can I turn on floor in my office? It wouldn’t be an home office, I would have employees (10 or so) working in the building.
If this is not possible is there a way to apply for a permit?
Thanks for your help, I’m kinda clueless.
