Co-op Application First?


When attempting to buy a co-op, which usually comes first: a signed sales contract with the apartment seller, or the co-op application and approval?

Floor track for old pocket doors, and/or someone to reinstall them?


We took out the very heavy original pocket doors of our 1880 brownstone for stripping, and now we need someone to reinstall them. They have been without a floor track for decades, and so haven’t been used much lately. We need someone either to install a new floor track and hang the doors, or build something strong for them to hang from, etc., so that they can be easily opened and closed. Has anyone had experience with a carpenter or contractor who did this well?

recommendation for chimney contractor?


We need a new chimney liner, and possibly masonry work in the chimney area, for our 4-story brownstone. This chimney is for the building’s gas boiler. Can anyone recommend someone based either on personal satisfaction, or excellent reputation? We have already received an estimate from “The Chimney Doctor” but it seems high.
