Gutters Cleaned

Hi,

I need to clean our gutters but they are too high for our ladders.

Does anyone have the name of a service that will do this and a ball park price?

Thanks

Wet wall

Hi there,

With all the snow piling up and melting it looks like our house has sprung a leak.

I noticed the plaster discolored and paint bubbling up on our living room wall near a large settlement crack. It’s not far from the joint where an addition connects to the house and is also near where the rain gutter down spout is situated on the exterior.

Being a new home owner I’m not sure who I call to have this looked at; a roofer, a mason for the brick?

Would appreciate your advice and recommendations for repair people.

Thanks!

Shed Collapse

Hi,

I have two questions I was hoping to get some help with.

We went away for the holidays and missed the big blizzard, but when we returned a car sized, aging steel shed in our backyard collapsed under the weight of the snow. The side walls are still up but the roof is caved in and the whole thing doesn’t seem very stable.

My first questions is can I get into any trouble get any kind of fine for leaving this in its current state for any extended period of time, ie. until the snow melts and it’s easier to take down? It is a private house that we recently purchased, and it’s on our property, there’s no reason for anyone but us to go back there.

And should I contact our insurance? Is this something they would cover to have safely removed? Would it change our rates?

Thanks for your input, this is new territory for us and your advice is appreciated.

Cheers.

Tips for Tiles, Countertops…

Hi,

We’re looking to put new tile down on our kitchen floor and get a new counter top. I want to try and broaden my horizon’s beyond Home Depot as a supplier.

Any tips on good places for ceramic floor tiles or for counter tops in B’klyn, even Queens?

Thanks.

Old Wiring Risks…

Hi,

We have some old canvas wring in our 1930′s brick home.

At inspection the we were told we should remove any of this wiring that is exposed and any old pull chain light switches, etc.

But should we be replacing the wiring behind the walls?

This sounds like a major job and I’m wondering if it is absolutely essential.

There was no mention of that big a job at the time of inspection.

Would appreciate your thoughts.

Thanks.

Venting Boiler Room

Hi,

We want to put a vent into our boiler room of our brick house to keep the air circulating.

Who would I call to have this done, contractor? Mason? And what should I expect to pay?

Thanks again for your advice. This forum is a godsend to first time homeowners like myself.

Cheers.
