Pulling a “Saturday work permit” at Brooklyn DOB

Hi,

We are working on a new building and my contractor wants to pull a Saturday permit to get more done. I would like to go to Brooklyn DOB myself to do this so I dont have to pay my expediters fee. Does anyone know what forms I need? Is the “PW5″ the only form I need?

As I understand I just go to the 8th FL of the DOB building and get a number and wait to be called…it this all? Is there anything else I need to know?

Radiant Heat Install Before Walls Insulated?

Does anyone know if radiant heat can be/should be installed before walls are insullated and rocked? Our plumber wants to wait, but I have been doing google searches and have seen plenty of pictures of radiant floor heat being layed before walls were insullated or sheet rocked. Our plumbers reasoning makes sense in that he does not want to risk damaging the water coils, but I am trying to see if he is over reacting. Thank you for any advice.

curbcut and street light

Has anyone had to move a streetlight because it is too close to the location you need to make a driveway curbcut? What is the cost associated with this?

Revocable Consent

Hi,

We are currently building a new home in Brooklyn. the front 7 feet of land is in front of our property line. However, EVERYONE on the street also has land in front of their property line. The city is making us set back our property and put a 5 foot planting strip. This will then cause a void in the road that pedestrians will have to walk into to walk on the sidewalk up our street. We already have an architect and expediter who have files the appropriot paperwork, but Im just wondering if anyone else went through this process and what the result was? The DOT says this can take 4-6 months for us to get an answer. We are really hoping we are able to get the revocable consent, because setting back the land will create a very strange void that we feel students from the high school down the street will hang out in in front of our house.

Demolition of a Garage

I am demolishing/removing a falling down garage at the property we just purchased. The DOB is requiring we “notify the local community board”. Has anyone done this? What exactly do I need to do? I have spoke with a few expediters and they are unclear as well.

Landscape Architect or Designer?

We are building a new house in Brooklyn (Bay Ridge). I will need to do some landscaping with our front/read/side yards. We would like to do a nice terraced design in the front and something very hip and modern in the back. As this job requires dealing with our property line and possibly the DOT (in the front), do I need to hire a landscape architect? I would think the architect could recommend me a landscape contractor to actually do the work. Is this how it works?! Does anyone know a good landscape architect in Brooklyn?

Contractor Working Today-Legal?

We were just awoke by the stucco contractors who are fixing our building. I find it quite disturbing that our landlord would schedule workers to be working today. I understand that everyone does not celebrate Easter, but regardless…its Sunday. are the contractors even allowed to be working? Im thinking to call 311 and file a complaint. They are making so much noise and we were planning on having a quite day with the family.

Hi, This forum has been a great help to me as of late and I thank all who have responded. Can anyone point me in the direction of the NYC DOB definition of a dormer?
