Turning Dumbwaiter into Storage?

Hi Stoners,

We have an old dumbwaiter in our Sunset Park co-op. Several other owners have turned the dumbwaiter opening into a small closet. We’re looking to do the same thing (in our case, a kitchen pantry).

Any suggestions for handymen/carpenters who would be willing to take on such a relatively small project? Since any problems in the dumbwaiter would also affect our neighbors, I want to make sure the builder is very conscientious.

Thanks!

Co-op Maintenance by Share?

My 16-unit co-op is discussing whether to have maintenance fees divided by shares.

Right now, all units are paying basically the same monthly fees (give or take $50), even though some owners have about twice as many shares. This has been going on for many years, so any change would be a significant shake-up.

What are the arguments for paying fees by share? What are the arguments for keeping it the same? I want to make sure we’re considering all the sides.

Thanks!

Need a closet builder

Hi folks,

We’re about to have a baby and are looking to maximize the closet space in our co-op. We’re looking for someone who can build out the interiors of two awkwardly shaped (but decent square footage) closets. Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help!

Affordable backsplash install?

We just moved into a 100-year-old co-op in Sunset Park and installed new cabinets and appliances in the kitchen. We now need someone to install a subway tile backsplash behind the sink and stove. Any suggestions for local folks? Affordability is key. Thanks!
