Weird Electrical Occurrance


This morning I was sound asleep when I was suddenly awakened by a popping noise and flash of light. There was a slight smell of smoke, and while the smoke alarm did not go off, the red “alarm” light on the smoke detector flashed for a few minutes, before returning to normal.

I checked it out, and all my lights, appliances etc were working fine and none of the breakers were tripped.
The room has recessed ceiling lighting on a dimmer switch, and none of the bulbs are burned out and the dimmer is still working. Since I was asleep, none of the lights were on at the time. What could have caused this, and what is the worst case scenario here ? Its been a few hours and my apartment hasn’t burned down yet. Thanks for any replies – Its making me pretty paranoid.

Condensation on Toilet Tank


Any theories regarding why this would suddenly become a problem ? I’ve been living in my place for six months, and two days ago condensation suddenly began forming on the tank. There are no cracks in the tank or anything else wrong as far as I can tell.

Touching Up Eggshell “Touch Up”


I tried to touch up the paint in my hallway, and because the finish was eggshell, the touched up spots are shiny. I am now well aware that you are not supposed to do that.
Is there a trick to fixing it ? I don’t want to repaint the whole wall because it happens to be in a narrow staircase making the area near the inaccessible without a scaffold. what if I go over the spots with the same color in a flat finish ?
