Fix or Replace?

Hi… this flush mechanism does not work well at all. The super already replaced a part inside the round thing on top, but it makes no difference. Most of the time the handle will not engage in any water releasing activity… Should I replace the entire flush mechanism or the entire toilet? What would that cost and can you recommend somebody for what I think is a small job?

drop-in tub

My bath tub has seen better days, it was reglazed at least once I am sure (not by me) and I am not looking forward to ripping the old one out and replacing lots of tile and making a giant expensive mess. The rest of the bathroom is in good shape and needs no work. Does anybody here have experience with drop-in tubs? Do I understand right they simply fit over the existing one?

Painter Rec

Thanks to the Brownstoner forum posters for recommending Jamie Grubb. He finished painting my one-bedroom coop in a couple of days, including the ceiling, and did a great job! Professional, affordable, and very pleasant to work with. You can reach him at 917-446-5175

Painter

Looking for a painter for a small project. I checked the forum and saw a bunch of single recommendations, but few repeats. Any experiences with the crew from “paintyourapartment” out there? I need to get 2 rooms painted in the next week or so..
thanks!

Baseboard Heat

Hi… looking for info on baseboard heat as I am unfamiliar with it. I rent a parlor floor in a brownstone and it is chilly there. The house has baseboard hot water heat and occasionally, often in the middle of the night, I can hear water running, quite loud actually, as if i am sleeping in a bathroom, but the units seldom feel warm, and never hot. My question is, is this loud water noise normal, it is like somebody is stirring water in a tub, and is there a way to regulate individual floors? I would like to understand a little more before i approach my landlord.

baseboard heating

Hi… I recently moved into a place with baseboard heating. The layout almost forces me to put a small book case and a dresser against walls that also have the heating units running along them. Will that affect the circulation badly? I can leave an inch or two free in front of it…

Kensington

Hi… I’m interested in your opinions on Kensington as a neighborhood for coop-living, especially the area near the Church Avenue subway stop, Ocean Parkway up to Avenue C or so. Will values hold? What do you think?
