Home Equity Loan for Co-Op
I recently purchased a forclosed coop in need of renovation.Purchase price of $120k, appraised at $195k.I need to take out a home equity loan for the renovations. I’ve been advised that most lenders don’t offer loans on coops. Chase offers the loans, but will not finance because I have a brand new mortgage, so there is no “cash equity”. Any suggestions?

Engineer or home inspector
I am looking at a home in Crown Heights to purchase. The home has a lot of character which I would want to retain, such as mantles, floors, skylight, etc. Among other things, the kitchen and bathroom would need total renovation. I would also be looking to turn the basement into a legal rental unit. Would it be more beneficial to hire a home inspector or an engineer, prior to putting in an offer? I would like to get a true scope of the work/cost involved in renovation. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
