How to Fix Sticky Door


Dear all,

The door to my apartment is sticky. To open or close it I have to push it in or out with my body weight. Any tips on how to fix this? Would love to figure out a way to do it myself instead of calling someone in.

Help! AC Blew 7 outlets!


Dear Brownstoners,

Need your help. Was switching my living room AC from high cool to low cool and it blew out 7 of my outlets in the living room and bedroom including the switches for my two ceiling fans. Checked the box and was hoping it was just a short circuit but all the buttons are still switched to “on” except for the bedroom button which is stuck in the middle.

I’m going to try and get an electrician in here despite the holiday but was hoping that someone on the site might “diagnose” the problem so I don’t end up getting ripped off if in fact it’s something simple. Has this ever happened to anyone else?

Benjamin Moore Regal or Aura?


Hi all,

My apartment is being repainted and I picked several Benjamin Moore Aura paints (used them before in my last apartment and was happy). Got a call from the painter today that he used BM regal paint instead because he thinks the quality is much better. I’m a bit annoyed by this because it took me forever to pick out the aura colors and I think they’re great. He’s assured me that the colors in regal are basically the same. Any thoughts on Regal vs. Aura paint?

Preparing for Closing


Hi all,

I’m a first-time home buyer preparing to close on my place at the end of this week (woohoo!). I’m wondering what advice you all have on making sure one is prepared for closing. Any surprises crop up for people the day of that you wish you’d been aware of? Is all I have to worry about bringing my cashier’s check for the closing costs and prepaid interest and showing up on time? Will of course check with my lawyer on all this (who’s currently on vacation) but wouldn’t mind advice from here.
