Anyone Live in The Edge?


Thinking of moving in into the Edge in Williamsburg. Have had lots of problems with sound in other apartments. Can anyone tell me about their experiences if they live here? Is it quiet, can you hear through the walls/ceiling? Is the construction going on outside really loud and ongoing? Any other thoughts about living there?

Lawyer Recommendation -breaking lease


Hi, Does anyone have a recommendation for a lawyer for breaking a lease? we are having a lot of issues with the building we live in and the management/owner is not responsive. We need a lawyer. Can anyone recommend one and also let me know in what capacity they dealt with the lawyer?

Soundproofing or Deadening Sound in a Rental


Hi. Does anyone have experience soundproofing a room in a rental apartment, where you can’t rebuild the walls? I live on a top floor near a A/C compressor of a large building and the sound is very loud. It is not possible for me to move right now. I would like to try to block the sound by maybe putting in window plugs like in this link:

Anyone have any suggestions or experiences doing something like this? Or experience using acoustic tiles or padding on the walls to deaden the sound? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

Bed Bugs? How Easily Do They Really Spread?


I live in a new construction, very large building. I recently found out there are more than one case of bed bugs in the building. How easily do they really spread? I have the ability to move out of my apartment if I want, do you think it’s worth it? Should I be concerned? Who has the number for Bloomberg’s new Bed Bug Task force??? Thoughts? Pieces of advice?

I know someone recently posted about a moving truck and this topic, but in my case, the bugs are a known quantity, not a possibility.

Housing Court vs Small Claims Court


So should friend go to housing or small claims court for this issue…Landlord withheld over 1/2 the security deposit (somewhere around $1,500) after moving out of apt for repairs made to apartment that are a result of regular wear and tear, as well as for a deductible she needed to pay to insurance for plumbing repairs. Damage to plumbing was caused when tenant was out of the state on business trip, and unrelated to any activity caused by tenant. So does it make sense to go to housing or small claims to address this issue? Also is there anything I should suggest to my friend who is dealing with this?

Custom Bed Recommendation


I’m looking for recommendations for someone to make a bed like the picture above. If the photos still aren’t posting, then you can see the link below with a picture of the type of bed.

I’m basically looking for a platform type of bed with rough large pieces of wood, but not so low to the ground as most of these are, with a headboard. Any suggestions or experiences with custom furniture makers, or even stores that might have something like this would be appreciated. (ps, already been to ABC Carpet, and Environment Furniture)

FSBO or Bad Idea?


I am thinking of going for sale by owner on my little apartment. I’d like to sell it and am concerned that I will lose money if I have to pay a broker a commission. However, I have no idea how to do a FSBO. And quite honestly the idea scares me a little bit too! I’m wondering if some members of the b’stoner community can explain a few things to me.

What happens when the buyer comes in with a broker (how do they get paid?)

What is it like during open houses, is it uncomfortable? And during the negotiation phase? Is it hard to be the owner and negotiate the price?

Does anyone have anything they would avoid doing? Has anyone experienced mistakes they learned from?

I get the whole know-your-comps idea and price it accordingly. I also have an attorney that I trust, so I feel fairly confident on those fronts. But all else…mmm…not so confident. Would love to hear other’s thoughts or experiences.
