Vendor Rec- 3 Brothers Construction


Hello all, I’ve had so many “not so great” vendor experiences lately that I wanted to recommend a good contractor. I had to have some stoop repair done to the inside/underside of my brownstone steps. The cement was cracking/crumbling under the stairs. Once the old cement was removed we realized that most of the mortar between the bricks was turning to sand and many of the bricks had softened nearly to the point of crumbling.
3 Brothers construction removed those bricks, put new ones in, put new mortar between the bricks that were salvageable (sp?), did the scratch coat of cement and then the final color coat of cement. They even added a new door to the “shed” underneath my steps and fixed the hinges on my front door w/o being asked to do so.
They were always on time (and always called if they thought they would be late). They even placed my mail inside of the home since they were working in the doorway when it was delivered every day.

On a sidenote, they also painted the front of my brownstone home in 2001 (before I was the property owner). Since this was so long ago I can’t vouch for how well they’d do this type of job now but I will say that the paint job is still holding up very well in comparison to some of my neighbors who have had their homes repainted more recently.
Mostafa also mentioned that he has a working relationship w/Landmarks if that matters to anyone.

Stoop Repair and Landmarks


Hi Stoners!

I need to have my brownstone stoop repaired ptetty much the same way as this forum post states.

Seems like just a cement repair job but I’d like to avoid the neighborly 311 rat out call just in case.

Flooring Recs?


Hi everyone,

I have a slight amt. of termite damage to my subfloor and one floor joist. Any recs for a licensed company that can repair/replace the joist & subfloor then install ceramic tile?

Fairly small area(~160 sq feet).

Haven’t had much luck with the recs on this site. Transcend never bothered faxing the estimate and Inti stood me up (twice)

“Prime” Stuy Heights Rent?


Hi everyone,

I tried checking craig’s list but didn’t find any stuy heights rentals listed.
Any other sites to do a little rent comparison?
Interested in renting top floor of Stuy Heights brownstone (around corner from Peaches restaurant). 20×40 home, new white appliances, hardwood floors, ceramic tile in kitchen & bath, jacuzzi tub.
1.5 bedrooms.

$1300 too ambitious?

Furniture Donations?


Does anyone know of any places that accept (and pick up)furniture dontions from Booklyn (Stuy Heights)?

Have several err “vintage” (ie. old but totally usable) pieces of furniture that will go to the landfill otherwise.

Price of Backyard fence?


Hey everyone,

Any recommendations for a company to install a backyard fence in BK? Regular chain link (vinyl?) 6 ft high, 40 ft long.

The estimates I’ve gotten range from $800-1000. Does that seem about right?
