Can They Do This?
I recently received a letter from the insurance agency for my hazard and homeowner’s insurance telling me that I need to present them with a estimate for repairs to my sidewalk and stoop. I have lived in this house for 15 years and have always had insurance with the same agent, but with my renewal this year, there is a new insurance carrier. This new carrier apparently took some photos of my sidewalk and stoop and attached copies with the letter. By Brooklyn standards, my sidewalk is pretty good; the stoop looks pretty bad because it cracked when there was a water main leak under it, but it was shored up with additional soil once the repairs were made to the main.
I am curious whether anyone else has had this happen. I also question the legality of it. I mean if I fail to comply, will they cancel my coverage? I have not spoken to my agent yet; I wanted to see first if anyone else had had this experience.
Sanitation Hearing
I am curious whether anyone has ever gone to a Sanitation hearing to fight a ticket. I received a ticket in the mail but I suspect it is really intended for my neighbor. We do not have clearly marked house numbers and our block has an irregular numbering system. I have taken numerous photos of the neighbor’s trash and yard, my trash and yard, as well as other photos to show them how the numbers could have gotten mistaken. Ticket is for $100, otherwise I really wouldn’t bother. Has anyone every done this?
