What’s the deal with a large abandoned building on the north side of 17th street close to 7th avenue?

Anyway, I think that is where it is – I quickly passed it yesterday evening and am now curious. It is brick and about 4 stories high and is next to another seemingly abandoned small building and another home that is currently being renovated.
