Best place to buy ALL WOOD kitchen cabinets

Hi all,

Can anyone refer us to a place that sells all wood kitchen cabinets – pricing is a major concern for us. We are interested in white shaker style cabinets. We are also planning on installing black granite counter tops – any recommendations? We were at Weisman’s this weekend but the cabinets we liked were 8k for a basic 10×10 and granite was $69/sf. Am I foolish to think I can find the kitchen cabinets I am looking for a much lower price? Thanks in advance.

Steps to proceed with Foreclosure Property

Hi Brownstoners,

We just stumbled upon a great foreclosure opportunity on a brownstone in Bed-Stuy. The owner has an 80/20 loan, has owned it for one year and wants to do a short sale. How do we go about proceeding with this sort of situation? Do we get a lawyer first or have it inspected first? Also, we are thinking of offering about 10% less than what the total amount of the mortgage is – is that reasonable? Also, would it help our case with the lenders to offer to cover the interest payments until the closing if they agree to our offer within say 24 hours? Finally, does anyone have any recommendations for lawyers in Brooklyn who can help with this sort of situation and what should I expect to pay them for their services?

Thanks guys – any and all responses are appreciated.

New Kitchens / Baths / Wiring / Plumbing

Hi Brownstoners,

Please help.

My husband and I are in contract on a 2 family, 3 story brownstone in Bed-Stuy and I have some questions about the updates we would like to make.

In respect to kitchens and baths, all are in bad shape. Is there a certain dollar amount we should not go over on each so we don’t end up losing money? Also, in terms of resale value, do buyers prefer these rooms to be contemporary in design? We are restoring all of the original woodwork as well as the original wood floors.

Secondly, in terms of updating the plumbing and electrical, is the only way to do this to totally remove all of the existing wiring and pipes? I thought that pulling everything out and starting over would help with out insurance but it doesn’t so is there a less expensive way to do this?

Please help guys, I’m lost.
