Help! Critters in Roof


We definitely have animals in our roof. We can hear scratching — pretty vigorous in the early morning and at night. It might happen other times, but we aren’t home.
We hired an exterminator who looked around, could find no holes. He put a one-way gate on our fireplace flue. But nothing seems to work.

Does anyone have any ideas, before we spend another 800 bucks for nothing?

Drilling through a brick fireplace


We mounted a LCD television above our unused fireplace. The wires hanging down are very unsightly. So, we were thinking of drilling through the masonry behind the television, to hang the wires down through the chimney flue. The cables would attach to our PS3 and cable box, which we’d place in the fireplace hearth.
(Obviously, we dont’ use the fireplace.)

Is this safe? And/or, will it work?

Wireless system?


We need help installing a wireless system with a router and a family that has macs and pcs. Has anyone used someone who can do that in a four-story brownstone?

I know that I should be able to do this by myself. But believe me, we need help.

Backyard Security


What’s your opinion on backyard security? We are gutting our kitchen, in the back parlor. There are french doors that lead to the deck — along with an ugly iron gate. The doors will be replaced with a glass/steel patio door. But do we need to keep the iron gate, or will a patio door with glass be secure enough? We live in Park Slope, and no one else seems to have an iron gate……but we have teenagers/tweens who are in and out of the house all day.

How to Get Action for Cable


Time Warner Cable missed my appointment this morning. Trying to get them to make up for it, and came later this afternoon, I was told that they wouldn’t guarantee. but if they showed up, and I wasn’t home, they would charge me $40.

(Time Warner also claimed I missed the appointment, and that they called me. This is a complete lie — my cellphone record will prove it. And i waited by the window, by my door for two hours.)
Since I found the possible payment of $40 unacceptable, and I had to get to work, I asked to reschedule. They offered an appointment for next week (after having already waited 1 week for this appointment.)

I am pretty fed up, and want to talk to someone there with some power to do something. Does anyone have a contact?

Need an exterminator


i have seen two disgusting big roaches in our brownstone, parlor floor. I want to get rid of them asap. does anyone know of a good exterminator? and how to get rid of them?
