Radiator Removal

For some reason our ground floor apartment has two radiators installed right next to one another. We would like to have one of them removed. It hasn’t worked since we bought the property– the other radiator works just fine. Names/suggestions would be appreciated.

Kudos to Kate! (again)

My wife and I have just completed a massive re-finishing effort on the first floor of our Midwood property and just want to thank Kate Taylor and her staff for all their amazing work. Kate handled all of our electrical needs, plaster repair, painting, restored the funtionality of our windows and refinished all of the original hardware throughout the house. We are also hiring her to build office cabinetry and kitchen shelving for our other property–moe news on that to follow. I highly recommend the highly talented Kate (again). katetaylorinteriors_at_gmail.com

Decorative Concrete Over Linoleum Glue?

I am considering tearing up the linoleum in our kitchen and pouring decorative concrete. I’ve found lots of how-to’s regarding the concrete itself, but no specific info as to what kind of leveling/re-surfacing I need to do beforehand. Can I get away with leaving the old linoleum adhesive in place and pouring a liquid self-leveler down and then the concrete? Do I even need to put leveler down first, or will the concrete self-level enough that it wouldn’t be necessary?

Antique Stove Repair

My wife and I are looking into buying a vintage stove from Build it Green in Astoria. What are the pitfalls and potential hazards of using/fixing and old stove/oven, and can anyone recommend a specialist?

Stripping facade paint

Wondering if someone can suggest the best way to strip chipping paint from our brownstone facade. I would like to do the work myself and have experience with various strippers but only with woodwork. Any suggestions?

Great House Painter

I recently found a great house painter through my college alumni list serve. She mentioned most of her business last year was generated through client refs on Brownstoner so I’ve signed up to post her info and help connect her with more clients.

Kate Taylor is an exceptional painter with lots of experience working on older homes (such as my own). She is currently skim-coating two of our four bedrooms and the walls are looking really beautiful. She has also been a great help with color and finish selection. She is reasonably priced, particularly considering the quality of the work. Kate’s number is 443-465-6490. Thanks Kate!
