Accidental Mortgage Underpayment


Hey all. I mis-wrote my last check, underpaid by $500. Today is the 7th is is technically the end of my grace period.

Suggestions? Repercussions? This is a first offense, I’ve never missed a payment or anything…

Need to Raise Couch by About 4″


Hey ya’ll.

So I have a nice sofa bed that I just bought – use it more as a sofa than a bed, but it’s nice to have options.

It looks great – kind of mid-century, a nice grey color, very simple… only one problem.

I have baseboard heating which is preventing it from going back against the wall.

Now, feng shui aside, I’m not asking for opinions on where in a room a couch should go – it’s a very narrow apartment and it “needs” to go flush against one of my walls to work.

All I need to do is raise the couch about 3 inches (maybe a bit more), but hopefully in a classy way that doesn’t look ugly.

Any suggestions?

Window in Shower – Issue!


Hi everybody. I need some advice here. I’m a first-time buyer.

My unit is in an older building that was re-divided into condos. I’ve owned since last September.

In the bathroom, I have a window in the shower – this is the only unit in the building with this, due to my unit being the smallest and having been divided differently from the rest. I think that because my unit is the only one like this, the contractors didn’t think about what they were doing very carefully and made my window out of wood, like all the other windows in the building.

Within a couple of months of living there, taking showers, etc, the paint had started to crackle and peel. I got a hold of the contractor and he came and re-painted using an oil-based paint, then a layer of varnish.

This seemed okay for a few more months, but now the same thing is happening again. The paint is peeling and I’m worried about mold etc.

Our Offering Plan states states that: “For two years, the plumbing, electrical, heating, cooling and ventilation systems must be free from defects caused by unskillful installation.” But I’m not sure about issues like this.

Here’s what I want to know… do you think I have a leg to stand on as far as getting some more permanent fix to this? I see this being a big potential problem, and honestly, it’s bad construction. If I had been a more experienced buyer when I got the place I would have noticed, but of course I didn’t. I think the window needs to be tiled or something…

Low-Maintenance Outdoor Plants?


Hi guys. Can anyone recommend some low-maint outdoor plants? I’m thinking both for flower boxes and medium-sized planters, even up to small-tree size. I take a lot of trips so low-maint is important… also, which plants can survive NY winters?

Shower in Rec Room


Heya peeps. Is it possible o build a shower in a lower level rec room (less than 50% above ground)?

There is a functioning toilet, so I know there’s drainage…

Question – Small Masonry Job


Hi all. I was wondering if anybody had an idea how much it would cost to hire somebody to rip out the cheap sheetrock from this doorway, and fill it up with brick? There’s just too much sound leakage in it’s current state…
