prehung doors

i’m about to buy interior doors for my second floor at dykes. we’ve gutted the whole place. Should I get prehung or not? My contractor seemed sort of indifferent. What are pros and cons? The non pre-hung are tru-stile. and they would be MDF. I’m doing the best I can to replicate the orginal doors in a very lopsided federal style house. They will be painted and I have a ton of trim going around them (also replicating the original). Any thoughts?

i need to get someone to build a bathroom shelf by my shower. i want someone who knows about bathroom work because i need it to be waterproof. I’m not sure how that works. It can have tile on the bath side – this is an easy job – it just requires someone who knows about bathrooms. Anyone have any recs?

Facade Work

I’m going to get the steps of my painted brick house brownstoned – they’re a mess. I’m also going to paint and do some repair work on the wood trim. Should I get one person to do that – a mason – or hire a mason and an outdoor painter? I’ve heard good things about Prates Plastering for painting and Abedin for masonry work – do I need to hire both? Any thoughts greatly appreciated. If I do hire both, who comes first?

Restoring Mouldings Around Doors

I’ve got totally messed up mouldings around the doors on my second floor – they’re pine – I think – nicked, warped, etc. I need new doors, too. And will def replace the old doors – but I can’t decide if I should try to restore the mouldings – or have a carpenter replace them – I assume that would take a ton of time. Any thoughts? I will definitely veer towards the cheaper

Painted pipes

The paint on my heating pipes in my recently renovated parlor floor is peeling off in huge clumps. I’m not sure what to do. Should I spraypaint them like people do with radiators? I’ve also heard about heat resistant paint – is that an option – and is that particulary toxic. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
