How can I Really Stop These Pesky Circulars??
So I’ve contact the people responsible for distributing these circulars by using the number on the bag. I call the number on the bag and complain about the dumping and they promised to remove my address but I continue to get circulars on a weekly basis. Ive always had the “do not place” notice on my door, as per the Sanitation department requirements, so I’m assuming the workers just don’t or can’t read english. Im about to submit a complaint form but i also wanted to know if there was any additional things that I need to do. I came very close to send out certified mail today with an intent to sue. Can some of the more sophisticated on this board tell me what I should do. Before I end, one day they dropped of several bags in front of my one family house that ended up being under the snow. I bring out the snow blower and poof, millions (exaggeration) of pieces of paper flying all over the place. So not only did I have to move 20 inches of snow, I had to move lots of strips of paper.
How to Start An Eviction… The Nice Way?
I need to evict a tenant because it’s just not working out. The rent is paid weeks late every month for the last 5 months that the 1st of the month to my tenant now seems like anytime between the 16-20th. Been very patient since she was a friend of a family, but now I think Ive had enough. I was about to contact a lawyer today to start it but thought to myself maybe I should just talk to her about it and see how it works out. Anyone try to be a nice guy in this kind of situation, if so how has it worked out.
City approved me for a tree
After seeing the cleanup that my neighbor does with his tree, can I suggest the kind of tree that i want, or is it what they give me. I saw that they already spray painted the border on the sidewalk. I sent in teh request about 6 months ago, and I’m surprised they responded so fast. Im excited.
RE Agent Wants my Credit Report?
I was about to submit a offer on a investment property with 10% consideration, but agent tells me that I have to give her my credit report also. Ive purchased two properties and have never heard of such a request. Anyone care to weigh in on my she would want me to submit a credit report. I have great credit, but I feel that it should be my business, not the business of the agent and the seller. Thanks
Question about DOB Violation
A neighboring property has some sort of structure that sits right near my property line and and looks very shoddy. I notified DOB about this and they came and issued a ECB violation for work without a permit ( law section 28-105.1).
I bought the house a few months back and neighbor had his extension already there. The lady that owned the house before me was very old, and probably had no idea that she could complain about the structure. One day while parking in the driveway I noticed that the neigbor had garbage flowing over the fence. I told him about it and he did nothing. That’s what prompted me to call DOB.
Went to the DOB website and they fined him $1600, but I thought DOB would be far more strict that that.
From DOB:
WORK W/O A PERMIT ERECTED A MASONRY (CMU) STRUCTURE ABOUT 20X30X8 @ THE REAR YARD EXTENDING TO ABOUT 12 FROM REAR LOT LINE W/ ENCLOSED ROOFARRANGED TO BE USED & OCCUPIED @ THE TIME OF INSPECTION AS AN EXTENDED.
He is actually a bit over a foot from my property line. I was there when DOB guy showed up and said his structure was unsafe, and I’m surprised to see they only issued a $1600 fine. What about the illegal, unsafe extension near the property line. If that’s teh case why would anyone get a permit if you can just pay “small money” to let the problem go away. Im sure what he built would have cost thousands more and probably wouldn’t have been approved in the first place.
Looking for baluster painter
looking for a place to get my balusters painted. I tired doing this myself today and it didn’t come out that great. The balusters are new oak and I need them painted in a nice satin white finish. Does anyone know of a place that specializes in such a thing? Thank you.
Question about DOB Violation
My neighbor to the left of my driveway has an DOB violation that was opened earlier this month for illegal construction. This guy somehow managed to build a 20x 25 1 story structure in his backyard, which is about 2 feet from property line and my driveway.
I personally see his structure as an eye sore, and I would like it to be taken down. As someone having interest in the outcome of this situation, do I contact DOB to address my concern, and make them know that I don’t want that near my driveway? Also, I consider his structure to be a fire hazard.
While I’m not trying to be a pain in the ass neighbor, I do need to protect my interest. if you don’t who will, know what I mean?
Any thoughts appreciated.
Any though
Thoughts on Recessed Lighting
We’re in the middle of doing a partial gut renovation and I suggested that we do recessed lighting in almost all rooms, as that seems to be the way to update lighting. My wife says no to the lighting, and says that a ceiling fan with light is all we need. To me, recessed lighting looks clean, neat, and makes the ceiling look higher. Plus it would be a great selling point later down the line if we decide to sell. I hate thinking that we’re doing a gut reno and putting back the simple lighting that was done 100 years ago in the house. Any thoughts?
Replacing Radiators
Doing a renovation and would like to remove the bulky cast iron radiators. They heat the house perfectly, but I’m concerned that it may burn my 3yr old or might be a problem for my baby on the way. I’m thinking about baseboard but is that the only option that I have? My heating contractor told me of a low profile cast iron baseboard, but it potentially gets hot like a full sized radiator being that it’s also cast iron. Almost feel like I’m throwing away money replacing them, but don’t want my kids to get hurt. Opinions anyone?
No parking in BedStuy on Thurs.
So that was killed by another officer is having a funeral service on Throop between Macdonough and Macon. Up are signs that say no parking on about 8, maybe more, blocks in the Stuy. Where do they think hundreds of cars are suppose to go? While I respect the situation, I think it’s overkill. Even the school parking on Macon between Tompkins and Marcy will be restricted. Unreal!
