Furnace tune-up or @#*&-up?
Another day my oil company sent a technicial for anual maintanance. This is 100y/o furnace, which provides hot water for house heating. It was converted from coal to oil long ago.
The guy found 7 bricks, which slow down flow in the furnace and simply threw out all of them. I tried to convince him to put them back. He put 2 back and said, that this will make it more efficient. Sounds pretty strange, because I think it will make more heat escape in the chimney. He did not measure chimney gas temperature or anything like this.
So should I worry about it? Should I call somebody like masterplumber to look at it and adjust it as necessary? I plan to keep this furnace only for one more year. So I do not worry about a bit of inefficiency as much as I worry about burning though the chimney or things like this.
What would you recomend?
thanks
